the Stelvio is amazing! …but it is NOT the second longest pass in the Alps - it is the second highest (after Iseran); there are some longer passes (in fact much longer…), but they are not as high
@fiddleronthebikeАй бұрын
…and thank God it’s not constantly between 9 and 11 % - that would be horrible… there are a few passages of 11 %, but mostly it’s between 7 and 8 %, averaging at 7.5 % for the 25 km

Looks like a grate trip! I am thinking coming to Germany to do a bike packing trip this summer. Where did you leave your bike bags when you were cycling around?
@bicibetta2 ай бұрын
The last two trips (one in Southern England and in Provence, France) I started and ended the tour in the same city and booked the same accommodation for start and end date. Both times, the accommodation let me leave the bicycle suitcase in the storage room without extra charge. The bike suitcase is not a full hard shell, though, and folds together to a fairly small size.

The ridiculousness of british cycle infrastructure 😅 You should try the north, from newcastle (you can get a ferry from NL) you can explore Northumberland and the north pennines, its beautiful and very quiet
@bicibetta5 ай бұрын
Thank you for the suggestion to go to Northumberland. Actually, our original plan for the trip in the video was to go north, maybe as far as Scotland. Only because of the weather forecast we decided to bike south of London 😊

Stelvio is insane, every bit of its reputation is well deserved. I did it in august while touring with panniers, on my birthday! It got to 35⁰ but if you get out of Prato before noon, you'll gain altitude as the heat build so it balances out, and there are plenty of water fountains to fill bottles all the way up. I didnt mind the traffic, the gradient and hairpins keep all the cars pretty slow so it felt ok. I descended to Bormio, and i didnt enjoy that because there are so many single lane tunnels so you have to stop and queue at the red lights. Definitely a bucket list climb.

Nice trip! So glad to see that there are safe places to ride as I am moving to the UK next year. Cycling in my present home town of Cape Town South Africa is terrifying! People here have little regard for the rules of the road or the safety of others. They completely ignore the pathetic green stripes painted along the edge of busy roads that are supposed to indicate a bike path and are forever driving straight through red traffic lights at high speed. Commuting is a heart stopping affair every morning. I am so tired of the stress and fear.

you should never mount your airtag outside it will become totally point less , you need to think as a bike thief , so you need to hide your airtag INSIDE YOUR BIKE you should hide it inside your bike, "INSIDE" your bicycle frame , FORK, seat post , inside your bicycle saddle , inside handle bar remember "INSIDE" just make sure it stay hidden ,I manage to put 4 apple airtag and 2 momax Pintag "INSIDE MY BIKE " total six air tag I gotta say im very impress with the result it help track my bike within 3 hours after it got stolen last week and call police to help recover my bike within 5 hours it got stolen , and catch the thief think outside the box and be creative

As I’ve learned more I see that there are many good cycling opportunities, and a great cycling infrastructure! My wife and I are planning to visit in 2023 or 2024 (from th U.S.) - your videos are providing great information about details we need for our planning. Thanks again for creating them, and sharing them! -Pete

The bike touring option on Komoot seems to assume that you have more of a gravel/MTB bike than what most of us think of as a touring bike. I use the road bike option and then go back over the route using the touring option, satellite map and street view to find cycling paths and lanes that are more suitable for my touring bike and modify my route to take them instead.
@bicibetta Жыл бұрын
I agree. For some sections of the bike touring route, one would have needed a MTB. By now, I plan my routes like you described. Starting with road cycling, and then adjust it 😉

Is it wrong to laugh at your peeing problems? Unsympathetically male of me. Perhaps. But I feel a tiny bit guilty. That man with the great big cape in the rain and terrible wind resistance made his ride all the worse! Lots to like about this video - your wet feet - so miserable! - we have all had days like that and appreciate you showing it, your B&B host that took pity on you and dried your gear, the views you showed, the terrain etc B&B? AirB&B, gite etc .... I don't know the German speaking world's name for them ...
@bicibetta Жыл бұрын
The peeing situation can be indeed challenging 😂 some of my female biking friends would agree. That day was luckily the only (full) day on my way from Munich to Florence where it rained. In retrospect it was not that bad… but I remember being stressed about the rain that day. They use different terms. In this case, the Italian host literally called it B&B. More common further north in southern Tyrol, Austria, Bavaria is probably “Pension”.
