So exciting to have the printed copies. Love hearing about the querying plans. I'm not at that stage yet, but am learning what I can now.

the printed copies definitely help me feel like this could be a 'real' book someday <3 good luck with your writing journey!

I noticed that a lot of your script is from k ancrum's author's note--everyone should go read that, regardless of whether you read this book!

i'm so glad that someone has read (and remebered) the author's note! i think extracts are always worth including in reviews for me, especially for personal stories or if their words make my point better than i can :)

I am so disappointed with what i am hearing about this book. I was hoping she would allow them to be evil. Even if she is from France.....France was also brutal
@tandewrites5 ай бұрын
i think the book will work well for a large amount of readers, just not the readers who are drawn to it because of the shakespeare influence unfortunately :/
@CharlotteeSmithhh5 ай бұрын
oh I COMPLETELY agree with you. I don't know what the author did to Lady Macbeth, but I don't want it. I wanted to love the book, I truly did, because Macbeth is my favourite play, but my word did Reid assassinate her. By the end of the book I didn't care what happened to her, and truly, that ending was a choice. It felt very girlboss, which was unpleasant to read. And the side plot romance felt shoehorned in there, it truly could have been removed and nothing about the actual plot would have changed. I just wanted the Lady Macbeth who bullied her husband and told him he was "too full of the milk of human kindness" back
@tandewrites4 ай бұрын
i truly do hope that this book finds an audience that enjoys it, but it's unfortunate that it won't be the shakespeare fan audience that i was expecting this book to be aimed towards :/

Great review. One thing you probably missed if you’re not familiar with the actual history. One of the witches is called Gruoch. That’s the name of the real Lady MacBeth, so she literally turned a Scottish queen into a witch.

Yo, I've seen loads of people criticising the pretentious prose in Nothing But Blackened Teeth and then really enjoying The Salt Grows Heavy, so it's so interesting that you had the same problem with The Salt Grows Heavy. Hearing you talk about The Girl from the Sea made me desperate to read it, though. Also, loving this list's sort of 30% sea monster saturation. I'm in fine company

@DJ-9y9mf Жыл бұрын
@@leiadebrionster7236 the ending was so ridiculously stupid. Like the king who hasn’t been defeated by ANYONE for centuries was killed by a 16 year old boy who was trained by his army? Or the fact that the somniatis witch was killed by her daughter even tho she wasn’t half as powerful. And the deaths were so not sad at all. When her aunt died I thought I had to be a joke coz it was so anticlimactic or when mikael died I felt absolutely nothing. All in all, I give it 1/10 for effort
