Gloucester north now have BX17 CYS as wholetime pump but being replaced sbortly to go to driver training as got a lot of miles on it, to be replaced by an older pump.

The newer (second) truck looks much sharper than the earlier edition. I’m also pleased to see that there are no forward facing amber lights on the lightbar. Now, call me pedantic, but, ‘FIRE & RESCUE’ looks way better than ’FIRE AND RESCUE.’

This video has made me feel old, I remember as a kid the R Reg Volvo Saxon with the Upturned Flower Pot and Volvo Badge Blue Strobes from Purley Fire Station. R Reg is 1997... I forget I'm 33 sometimes.

The fire looks to be behind the butts of the rifle rangers at Longmoor. The red flag is up so shooting is going on. That entrance is at the end of a 600m range. 51°04'34.4"N 0°52'32.0"W My brother and his unit may have started a fire on the ranges up at Otterburn, well, they were expending the surplus tracer at the end of the training year...

Here’s something I will never understand: Why do Swansea’s pumps get replaced every year? This particular one got replaced by a new 71 plate in 2021/2, and now the 20 plate is at Knighton. THEN the 71 plate only got replaced this YEAR by a 23 plate, sending the 71 to Llandysul. The same thing happened at Swansea Central: their old 20 plate is now at Newcastle Emlyn, and their old 71 still hasn’t been reallocated as far as I’m concerned. Why not send brand new ones to all stations and let them have a long service life with them?

Interesting to see how the turnout for a brush fire looks English fire services vs. what we have here in California. We’d call the 4x4’s “Type 6” units over here - generally a medium duty truck like an F450. Ours tend to have an extended cab to allow for 3-4 crew members, though, to fully staff the truck. I was surprised to see standard fire trucks responding, though! We call those Class 1’s, and generally avoid taking them off road since they don’t have a high ground clearance, but even our “Urban” engines have more ground clearance than the ones shown here. Honestly wish we had more reasonably sized apparatus here in the States, but that’s an aside. The lack of aircraft was also interesting, though California is an outlier for having such a large airborne firefighting response on standby all the time. But, for a fire this size you’d see aircraft on scene within 20 minutes at most to try and contain the spread until hand crews and bulldozers could get in to build fire breaks.

In the uk we dont have a “routine” air response to brush fire , there is a mutual aid agreement leant to the civil services by a neighbouring military through the NATO partnership, but as a civil emergency service the UK has NO ability whatsoever to fight fire from the air.
