Have a 2017 Sonota. The engine went. Hyundai gave us a "new" engine and paid our rental expenses during that time. Very happy so far at 104,000 miles, but it's only the first engine. I can't imagine how frustrating your situation must be after three engines.

Man, I'm sorry. Our 2013 Sonata engine just blew up, but it's getting a new engine under the Theta II class action lawsuit. New engine in a paid off car with 82K miles? Yes, thank you. My '22 Elantra N is simply an amazing machine, only flaw is the knock sensor; currently on it's 3rd one, but it's a power train code, so on Hyundai's dime until 2032. The trick with Hyundai: only buy one with a VIN starting with K. Those are built in Korea. Anything built in Mexico or US are trash. Did I mention I can get 0-60 in 5 seconds in my N? Or 35+ MPG in Eco mode. Amazing machine...

I have a few friends who work at Hyundai/Kia dealerships. They said the sales are slow but the service department is making $$ because of the guaranteed pay from warranty work. I guess if you're a service advisor and tech for that company, you have job security. Edit: Also, check your lemon law. Some states have lemon laws. Out here in California, if your vehicle has been to the dealer at least 3 times (3 attempted fixes) for the same issue, it qualifies a vehicle for a lemon buy back. The attorney won't charge you but will charge the manufacturer if and when they win your case.

Thanks! Yes, we have a lemon law also but I believe it is for newer vehicles.

Got burned when Kia came out with the Rio long time ago. Engine jumped time same week we got the title. Bought a used Suzuki Forenza for cheap and couldn’t kill it. Guy I sold it to had it forever then sold it for more than I did. Still see it on the road. I cringed when my friend just bought a used Kia. Wish I would’ve known he was looking at them.

Reach out to a lemon law attorney. If Hyundai is in violation of warranty laws or recall, the lawyer will go after them at no cost out of pocket to you. Not a quick solution, but would be at least worth looking into

I certainly want be purchasing one now based on how you are being treated after already having the engine replaced a few times already, they should buy this back as a lemon.

4 years ago, my sister's 2015 Hyundai died on her while on the freeway. Luckily she was able to get to the side before it completed stopped. Hyundai wanted to charge her over 5000 dollars to repair her engine. She just sold it and purchased a Toyota I will never buy a Hyundai.

I sympathize for those with Hyundais and Kias who have had serious problems with their cars. As an fyi, the new ones appear to have a reliability rating about in the middle of the major car brands sold in the US.

As a vehicle fleet owner for 35 years Hyundai and Kia have been the most trouble free of any vehicles in our fleet over the last 8-10 years. I pulled up records on 5 of them and the only repair done over a 5 year period was a blower motor fan replacement and one Hyundai has 180K with no repairs ever needing to be done. Our KIa Souls have been 100% trouble free. There were some engine problems 2012-14 but since then we have done fewer repairs (virtually none) than on our other fleet vehicles. Our pre-2020 Nissan Frontiers have been great also.

I just went through this with Kia and had to appeal it 3 times and threaten to get a lawyer and they finally, after six months put a new one in. I had to fight them on putting the same faulty engine in (MAKE NO SENSE) and they put a new one that wasn't a rebuild in. Contact Hyundai directly and chew them about it. They told me the recall that was on my engine had expired...IT WAS STILL A BAD ENGINE, no matter what amount of time had passed. This will be our last Kia for sure.

I bought a Hyundai many years ago and will never buy a Hyundai or Kia ever again. I can't count the times it stranded me. From overheating climbing mountain roads, to loss of motive power, and many other problems, it was really a hunk of crap. In the present day, like you, I keep hearing about engine problems and other woes.

I wanted a new Telluride in the worse way for the wife. After 4 years and no deals we moved on. Shorty after that I bought the wife a new Subaru Ascent and my buddy bought a new Telluride. I’ve become anal with oil changes and changed the Ascent at 1,000 miles. I was joking to my buddy had he changed his oil yet and he said no he changed his ENGINE. I asked what the heck are you talking about. His brand new 2024 Teli needed to have the engine replaced with around 8,000 miles on it. That sure inspires confidence in the Telluride. Me thinks the wife and I dodged a bullet. Sorry for your luck. We live in the age of disposable cars.
