Ill save us all time, the pilot shortage is over, everyone has all the pilots they need and a big stack of resumes, they’re good, so save you’re money go into coding or something else.
@111bryson17 сағат бұрын
I personally think this "pilot shortage" lie will actually cause an actual shortage. Way too many ignorant kids were sold this lie, and are now dropping out of flight schools like flies. With the high cost of training combined with insane costs of living and awful job stability, this is not an attractive field to get involved in....

Hi Nik, thank you for creating this podcast so aspiring professional pilots like me can learn from you and the guests you bring on to your show. I'm currently a student pilot and one of my instructors, call sign Queso said hi! I really like this episode especially that I plan on starting a business in the later part of my life. Of course my primary goal is to be an airline pilot first but I also aspire running my own business later on. I've thought about starting a flight school just like Caleb or something in the aviation industry. Of course we have to love what we do so it does not burn us out quickly. I'll be on the look out for more of your upcoming episodes. Keep up the good work!

how does it work in practice? do you have to book it or do you just rock up to the airport and ask at checkin?
@Ready4PushbackАй бұрын
It depends on the specific airline. Some allow you to roll in hot to the gate agent and some ask you to book on an app

Training is thorough, and most of the instructors are committed to setting you up for success. There will always be more of a sink-or-swim mentality with the airlines because of training costs, schedule, and the available applicant pool, and SkyWest is no exception. It isn't all peachy; forced transition upgrades, vacation, and training contracts are some points I would research before making the jump. No union is a double edged sword, and a dealbreaker for some. Line flying with OO is great, and I enjoy the vast majority of people I work with. Good travel benefits, relatively quick upgrade times, and job security in a fluid industry. Lots of resources and reasonably good operational software make day to day ops mostly smooth. Great emphasis on hand flying here, at least on the CRJ side. I'm happy I joined SkyWest.

Guys, this was an awesome podcast! Thank you for all of the great information. I recently learned about RTAG and joined. I am a veteran, and someone who is pursuing flying as an encore career. One of the things that I am curious about is mentorship. There seems to be a good amount of mentorship for those that are either starting out or at the 1500 + hour mark, but the path up to that 1500 hour point can be kind of dark. Are there services that help people navigate say from 250 to 500 hours or 500 to 1500 hours? I work in aviation and sought advice from many of the pilots that I work with. Most of it has been pretty sound, but some of it doesn't fit so well. One of things that I get alot is " You need to drop everything right now and go flight instruct, then get to the airlines as fast as possible". I get the seniority part of getting to the airlines quickly, but while dropping everything to be a flight instructor works for someone in say their early 20's, I find that it doesn't work so well for someone that is mid-life with mid-life responsibilities and obligations. So far this has required alot of patience , being methodical, and creative thinking. I would love to speak to someone that has walked the path that could say "ok, if I were starting from here, and had these things, this is the direction I would go". Thanks again for all you are doing. Keep up the great work!

So the corporate world is ticking right along, that's my end goal, simply because they for real let you live wherever you want and you don't have to commute, wish the big airlines would adopt this idea, atlas air does it a very similar way with gateway travel program
