Thanks! I think the hike is ascending 1001m from the starting position, but the top is actually 1017m above sea level. That is at least how I have understood what I’ve read. There seem to be some confusion on this between different sources...

@@kevinfangomango according to the official norwegian mapping authority it's 1001m. The times ive been there ive measured it using GPS to 999-1002 meters. But it's for sure the only higher than 1000 meters on the island which is cool anyway.

I can see you are not experienced hikers. What do you have in your big bags. You don't need such big bags if you going to hike up mountains and camp. You must learn to pack better so you can walk faster and better. You don't need much clothes just the minimum and their are videos to watch on how to pack so it's light.
@kevinfangomango
@kevinfangomango 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Roland, thanks for watching! I totally agree, you don't need much. What makes up the weight is usually the food for longer hikes. When transitioning between different climate zones (from "summer" to snow) like we planned in this video, we also bring a warm set of clothes, but that's normally it. What we underestimated was how dry the southern parts of the mountains was. Prior to this hike we had primarily hiked in Scandinavia where water is in abundance everywhere. We are actually quite experienced hikers and has left the ultra-light hype for good carriage systems. Obviously elevation is tough with extra kilos, but generally we have experienced that the carriage system and distribution of weight has perhaps even bigger impact than weight (on longer journeys). It's not the legs that get's tired, at least not for us, it's the neck and back if you carry to much weight with poor systems. Thanks for commenting!
@rolandlundall133

@@kevinfangomango Ok. I did enjoy your video, I just thought how hard it must be to hike and carry so much weight. I do hiking also and I pack very differently. Check out a hiker called Kraig Adams on youtube. He has really good videos but he also shows people how he packs on a special video with much less and still all he needs. There is a special video also on how to fold clothes so that you get more for less. It is very important to have less weight but still have all the things you need. Check out his blog. Cheers.
@kevinfangomango
@kevinfangomango 3 жыл бұрын
Roland Lundall Yeah, I mean we pack very differently depending on the hike. If you do shorter distances or follow a well organized trail with designated campspots, huts or food along the way you can pack very lightly (Craig Adams more or less always follow an organized trail). We packed that way in the follow up to this video, when in Valley of the Wonders. But when we started the trip, we didn’t even have a map because they could only be bought locally, so very little options to plan for anything along the way 😊 And as it turned out there where no facilities anywhere along the trail so we had to carry food for six days, which is about 36 meals for two people and some snacks, water etc. Except for the tent and cooking gear, that is what we had in our bags more or less. Unfortunately we underestimated access to water though... But I really like Craig Adams, and that is a hiking style that’s fits well for exploring famous trails and cover great distances. We do that as well, but more often we go on less known trails or not at a trail at all 😅

Where do you buy these detailed hiking maps of France? I’m searching for some from the Auvergne region! Also, be careful with open fires in France, the regulations are VERY strict... Great video!
@kevinfangomango
@kevinfangomango 4 жыл бұрын
Darragh Greaney Hi, thank you! Hopefully we didn’t break any regulations 🙏 At least we never made fire inside the actual national park and was very careful. Regarding maps we usually buy all our maps in local hiking/expedition/outdoor stores when we go abroad. Finding them can be an adventure in itself 😄 But usually the smaller store you find, the better. As a bonus you can usually get some local trail and outdoor advice from the staff 👍 Our French maps was bought in Nice, the store was called “expeditors” or something like that. But when we plan our hikes from home we use mapbox online with the outdoor filter, it gives you good enough information to roughly plan your trip. Hope it works out for ya!

Man bör såklart ha flytväst. @kevinfangomango

Hi, it was called Schronisko PTTK w Dolinie Pieciu Stawow. ”Schronisko” is the word for mountain hut it seems 😊 We called them and asked for a room, they wrote us up on some list and when we arrived we payed for it with credit card 👌 Next hut was near Morskie Oko, we slept there too but it is more of a hotel than a mountain hut... not the same feeling at all. Still beautiful, but too much people. Hope you sort it out! If you do day hikes from hut to hut it could be too short between Morskie Oko and Dolina Pieciu Stawow, you should probably go for the next ”Schronisko” after that.
