I'm in a recorder group. We have a few pieces by Susato. Fun to play. However, we don't have any percussionist so it doesn't sound as good as this.

Very sad that she was given neither the support nor the recognition for her talent in her time. Most of her work was not published until after her death, and the vast majority of her preformences were only done in front of friends or family. This piece is amazing.

8:59 , “I was guided by no system whatever. Very little image of tradition lies behind Le Sacre du Printemps, and no theory. I had only my ear to help me. I heard, and I wrote what I heard. I am the vessel through which the Sacre passed.” I had no idea he was so free form in his approach to writing Le Sacre, very interesting and insightful to learn

@Stravinsky75 3 жыл бұрын
This goes to the heart of the differences between Schönberg and Stravinsky. Schönberg believed that you needed a system in order to justify the musical choices you made as a composer, while Stravinsky (until his 12-tone period) took a more pragmatic approach.

That statement he makes about receiving as a vessel speaks to what I think was the failed spiritual event of May 29, 1913.
