And their best show Star Trek which spawned 6 spin offs and several movies. That was old Hollywood where actors had the respect of their peers.

I Love Lucy is one of my favorites. I also like Andy Griffith, MASH, and Cheers, long-time favorite Syndication hits.

For me, the hardest part of getting older is learning about the deaths of people who have always been around, even if you don’t personally know them, like tv personalities.

Although this is slated as a thirty-one minute show, in reality, this is a fifteen minute segment of repeated comments. To think, E! Television was a cable show when paying to watch a show did not involve advertising interruptions every two minutes. At one point, the screen remained black for so long, I actually forgot what I was watching.

I looked it up, and the I Love Lucy show only had one black actor on the show that played a porter. The 50s definitely was a racist time to be in.

I wish I was able to post the actual show with no black commercial breaks, but this was all that was available to me. Yes, it was an amazing episode to producer. I'm so glad you like it. By the way this was done over twenty years ago, documetaries are way different now.

To say that Desi did all the work and Lucy got all the glory is the most horrific statement ever. She was the star and he ran the company. The show wouldn't have happened at all if it weren't for Lucille and Desi wouldn't have been on it in any capacity if Lucille hadn't been adamant about him being her partner. The fact that Desi was an incredible business mind was a plus. He is largely why the show is revolutionary from a technical standpoint absolutely but it's ridiculous that they both can't be praised separately... Every discussion suggests that Desi suffered because he wasn't recognized for his work when she was. That's not her fault, that's just the reality: The people behind the scenes rarely get as much regard as the people in front of the camera. Wish people wouldn't make him out to be a saint. He was a brilliant innovator, and a cruel man to the woman who loved him so completely. Both can be, and more importantly, are true.

I love watching Lucy and Desi together and never tire of watching them on screen. I always felt that they should have made more than 3 movies together, When I watched Lucy or Desi appear on talk shows and the marriage would often come up, I always respected both of them because neither 'bad mouthed' one another in public. To me that was classy. Rip lucy and desi I love you both, Television sure is not as classy or as funny without the two of you,

He broke thru the glass ceiling at the time by becoming the first Hispanic mogul in history next to Louis B. Mayer, Jack Warner and Harry Cohn and then Lucille Ball took over DesiLu productions and became the first woman mogul who had a shrewd business mind underneath that red hair of hers!

Desi Arnaz may had some issues and problems from those time periods, but hear me out, he revolutionized and pioneered the US and worldwide television industry. I mean he/they pioneered the multi-camera setup for TV, a studio that has a live audience so they can enjoy the program that was being filmed at that studio in front of them ("I Love Lucy" was the first TV show to be filmed at a live studio audience), he/they used film to produce "I Love Lucy" instead of the program being recorded on Kinescope (the practice of recording a live television show on film before videotapes became practical) because New York was the only state that had high quality television programs and the rest of the US (particularly in the West Coast) was stuck with kinescope recordings so he/they did it to get both coast and the rest of the country the highest quality of a TV show and entertainment possible and he co-founded Desilu Productions (with Lucille Ball) which became the largest and strongest American independent television production company at that time. Television have never been the same thanks to Arnaz. Without him, TV networks, the TV industry and us people would still be stuck with kinescopes, think about that...

Thumbs down on this video. Desi was famous because he played off the "Patriarchal" trend of the times. Yes, he worked hard, but he was a womanizing pig. BTW - This coming from a woman who was born in 1963. He was a male - chauvinist pig and Lucy forfeited herself to him. Without Lucy, he was NOTHING.

I loved him and Lucy equally however, I lost just a smidgen of respect for Lucy when, in an interview she gave, she publicly called Desi a Bum amongst other derogatory things. I get it. She was hurt by his affairs and his drinking (she did her fair share) at the time. He was anything but a bum. He handled all their business/movies and television affairs and if it weren’t for his intelligence/tenacity & business acumen I don’t believe they would have had the success they did as she wasn’t all too popular before he came along. I felt that it was unnecessary for her to say those things on television. I still adored her but was sad she took it to that level. In the end. They still loved one another deeply until the day they both passed on.

Desi Arnaz had it all: looks, talent, intelligence, but unfortunately he was an addict: sex, booze, gambling. He ruined his marriage with wife Lucille Ball (also his 2nd wife Edith almost divorced him for the same reasons) and by 1955 his drinking was getting out of control - had a drink when he woke up and was on his way in the afternoon. Also, as years went on his boozing made him lose his wonderful business acumen. He had to sell his shares to Lucille Ball in 1962 because Desilu Studio was losing money. Also when Lucy remarried in 1960-61 Desi, who was in his 40's, looked like he was in his 60's: bloated, white hair, and just not with it. He was the Executive producer for 15 episodes of the Lucy Show, but resigned after that. Although in the future he had good ideas for projects, he could not carry through with them. Although he was married to two women who loved him and appreciated his gifts: his addictions were constant. It is sad, but who could possibly be married to a person with one of those addictions no less all three. Fortunately, the people that Lucy and Desi married, were good step parents to their children and did not seem ruffled that Lucy and Desi regularly talked on the phone together, almost every week, either about the children, or about projects that Lucy was in - she always called him for advice. Also Desi continued to send Lucy flowers on their wedding anniversary for at least 15 years after they were divorced. Seemed like both their spouses were ok with the close contact that Lucy and Desi continued to have after their divorce and remarriage.

You keep hearing that Lucy was more popular than Desi and that was why he drank and cheated on her, it's a Latin thing. It's not, it's a male thing. Most men can't stand it when their wives are more successful than they. I made more money than my husband and it drove him nuts. He didn't mind spending my earnings but he didn't like anyone finding that I made more than him. I finally took the part over what he made and banked it.
