I've started working on a tiny game project in my free time, and I feel like most of what I develop for it is just "Can I make it do this?" rather than actually figuring out what the game is, but that can fun and rewarding and lead to a lot of learning too.

What if you have an enemy that throws little sticks of dynamite at you, and as you kill them they drop a tiny stick of dynamite. As you collect them (cap out at 4 or something) they have varying degrees of AOE. So if you use one, then its a smaller explosion. Two sticks is slightly bigger, so on and so forth. The caveat is that smaller sticks or bundles are easier to throw, so even though 1 is a smaller explosion, you can throw it further, while a bundle of 4 is something you have to place down as its too heavy to throw, but does much more damage. Might balance out the way the dynamite works, and you get to add a new enemy that can make the dynamite mechanic work as it adds AOE for you as a player to avoid as well. Your content is awesome and inspiring. You're doing more for people than you realize. Thank you for all that you do.

2:03 as a guitar player and music producer that's now also starting to learn game dev, this was awesome to see! I totally agree with you on skipping the boring parts, as these are inevitable anyway. I prefer to learn things by having fun, because the boring difficult things can be fun too if you try enough and improve! I always advise anyone who's starting on the guitar to just practice songs YOU want to play, unless they're extremely difficult and impossible for beginners. I also love the art style of your games, I'm doing pixel art too in my game because it's the best

Ideas for a status effect: Shock/Static -Enemies inflicted with it periodically shoot beams of electricity towards others affected by shock, it damages everything in the path of the beam. Bleed -Bleeding enemies lose an additional amount of HP while inflicted with the status effect, it slowly fades away as if their blood is coagulating, unless shot/hit with a bleed weapon which resets the effect.

For me, source control is a huge help with removing unused code(rather than just commenting it out) if you ever need it again you can get it from your repo, but most likely you just end up with a cleaner code-base.

Hey! I am a game developer who does level design, story, mechanics and music. I am trying to launch my career and have been working on a game for the past few years. I'm a young developer who is looking for a dev partner of sorts. The only skills I lack in game development are detailed game art and programming. Whoever has programming or art skills and wants to works on something fun. Please message me back. Thanks!

You have a massive remaking problem, man. Way too many remakes. Like sorry if this sounds hateful or negative, I promise I don't mean it in that way. Every iteration of this project looked promising. It's just kinda demotivating to see someone throw away so much work on a constant basis when they could've released a full game a year ago focused on one thing. I hope the new enemies will be everything you wanted and more.
@mz_eth27 күн бұрын
@@BusinessWolf1 I can understand how it feels that way from the outside, but there’s a reason there has never been a demo for the game, and that’s because it wasn’t really that far along. I know I excel in the art/ aesthetic department, but most of 2023 was me learning fundamentals in coding, then 2024 applying that it manageable ways. Which unfortunately meant rewriting stuff, but that’s kinda how I learn. I’m more of a jump in and get hands on, rather than plan and read docs. I don’t really know that I have a big remake problem, I think this is my first “remake” if anything. Hmm I guess it spans 2 videos now, but it’s the same process. I worry I start too many small projects or game jams, and justify it by “learning something” but I mean I’ll keep this in mind! Thanks for the feedback back!
