It very much depends on what you want to film. To make feature films or pro wedding stuff etc. I would say this fantastic camera is ideal. If you're like me and film stuff for the web in HD and also do stills then DSLR could be the answer. As it happens I have switched to DSLR, Canon 80d which is a fantastic tool for video in HD and stills and I have the benefit of existing lenses. What I don't have is the phenominal zoom range of the G40 or the dynamics of manual control - but you should never zoom whilst shooting anyway? The answer is....it depends what you want to do with it.

I have now switched to DSLR for video but I've bought incredible stuff from China (Yes, I know) and been impressed with the price and quality. Try Ebay and Amazon, its amazing what you may find in Chinese manufacturing!

That appears to be the Canon XA20 camera - not at all sure that this handle would fit the CanonG40 - I doubt it very much. You're right! We moved to Spain in 2007 so it was before this date. probably summer 2006'ish? Film was shot on an old Sony camcorder on tape. Brilliant little tool that BTW and served me well until it died of heatstroke in Spain lol. Did you work as a volunteer at Tanfield, was that you walking the track outside the engine sheds? We lived in Gateshead then and now back in Barley Mow so Tanfield is still local, and a great place to visit!

I think its recommended that stabilisation is disabled when working on a tripod. I read this somewhere is the full manual.

Did you? I have it, and the Canon HF G10. Keeping both, but the quality of the Sony is incredible.

Yes! I get them all the time until I dispute them - they are there for 1 month! They are just trying to 'farm' others work i.m.o.

Yes...it is the music! It is an application I have used for many years...'Quicktracks' by 'Smartsound' - I built up a massive library over the years but alas! found it would not work under latest Premier Pro 64 bit until I found that installing 'SonicfirePro' plugin;I can use it all again! It's fantastic.....all the music is P.C. generated and I can play each clip of music in many different styles. It is all 'royalty free' and I have full licences. They always back down when I am stubborn with my dispute and threaten legal action!I am still getting to grips with this fabulous camera and recently have bought a MUCH needed monopod and also a 'shotgun' mike - never tested yet but have projects in mind lol!

yeah I noticed you need a monopod. The video was steady but it still seemed you were just holding it. Maybe they changed the licences and it's no longer royalty free...find out so you won't have problem with other videos.

Was in 'Cinema' mode and dynamic I.S. - I now shoot in 'manual' without the D.I.S. and seems much clearer, smoother and better. Wonderful camera when you get used to what it can do! All the improvements are on the inside so you are correct in that! Off to Santorini this weekend so that will be a real test.
