Does it help if you already know how to play violin, and can you tune the American 5 string banjo up to D and not play the extra string?

I am just starting to play and bought a "d" whistle. But because I play in old time bands they only play in the key of "c". So i bought a "c" whistle. But all the starting off lessons are for "d" chord. How do i overcome this as learning in "d" chord is going to be a waste of time for me. Many thanks for your time.

I have played around with the tin whistle in my youth and can play a few slow basic tunes badly. I have recently noticed thatwhistle players use their right hand over their left hand . I have learnt the opposite way round. Is that a problem.? I think I would find it very difficult to change at this stage? Should I continue or must I now change?

She answers this question within 45 seconds of the start of the video. It would be wise, when learning or watching anything, to watch a video in it's entirety before asking a question. The answer: It doesn't matter.

Where can I get the notes to this tune? Not playing off a sheet using ABC notes
@edwardleahy6533Ай бұрын
I am a bit confused. At around 2:40 mark in the video you say DCA but in the sheet music and the TAB it's DBA that's played. EDIT:Looks just a slip of the tongue as you play DBA when I look at clip on right .

I’m just starting with a keyless Irish flute, even though I’ve played a concert flute for years. Any hints as to get my fingers to cover the holes well? I’m having a terrible time with it! Thanks for any help.
@onlineacademyofirishmusicАй бұрын
Hi Nancy, have you been using the pads of your fingers as opposed to the tips of your fingers? It can take quite a bit to get used to that. This is quite an expert tune, would you start off with the basics? www.oaim.ie/flute/flute-basics/
@nancyniemi6089Ай бұрын
@@onlineacademyofirishmusic yes, I’ve been using the pads, and I have a Carbony flute that has ”silver flute spacing” of the holes. I do tend to rush ahead with learning new things, and I’ve been looking for videos on the basics, so maybe what you gave me here will help. The videos I’ve found so far just say “cover the holes with the pads of your fingers” and I try, but the D hole is giving me fits! I will use your video here and keep trying. I will be in your class at Swannanoa July 14-21, and I really hope I can do it by then! Looking forward to meeting you and learning with you!

Hi Nancy, I’m Mathew and I answer questions on our KZbin channel :) Low D is the hardest note to get a tone for, is it the tone you’re struggling with?
@nancyniemi6089Ай бұрын
@@onlineacademyofirishmusic hi Matthew, it’s actually the covering of the holes completely that I’m struggling with, and especially that D. When all is well covered my tone is acceptable. My question is if it’s just a matter of time, patience and practice, or if there are exercises to do to make these fingers learn where to go. Thanks!

@fenderflyerАй бұрын
Hi John, Really enjoyed the video. I have been trying to learn the guitar for about 5 years and I have a reasonable command of the instrument but I can't play in front of anyone, I don't have any confidence. I am an Irish man living in Spain and I would love to conquer this fear. Would you have any suggestions. Kind regards. Greg.
@onlineacademyofirishmusicАй бұрын
Hi Greg, Do you have any other people close by to play / learn music with? Perhaps a 1 - 1 teacher would help. You could learn some Spanish guitar pieces and slowly build for there. Play with tutor > play with friends > play in public. There is a great pdf to download here on this topic and also a course I think - playinthezone.com/ Let us know if that helps and don’t hesitate to get in touch with any other questions.

I know this is 8 years old.. but do you play the second phrase of the b part the same when you're teaching it and when you demonstrate it? seems different to me!
@onlineacademyofirishmusicАй бұрын
The nature of Irish music is that a tune is rarely played the same way when playing it normally. We call it variation. This is quite an advanced tune to learn, are you new to Irish music?
@archiestapleton4098Ай бұрын
@@onlineacademyofirishmusic Not too new-- I totally get the variation point-- i'm just trying to learn it phrase by phrase, and i'm genuinely wondering if i'm going crazy, or if the play through at 5:42 is subtly different to the phrase by phrase stuff from 6:15. Wasn't trying to be critical, just wondering.

When I put up my levers, I feel like it's raising the pitch more than a half-step. Is this a calibration issue, or do I just have to memorize the feel for my particular harp?
@onlineacademyofirishmusicАй бұрын
Hi Denise, we’re getting an answer. Please could you try using a tuner and let us know what accuracy you get?
@onlineacademyofirishmusicАй бұрын
Hi Denise, I’ve one of our tutors and the reply is “Please use a standard pitch tuner to check your harp is in tune with the levers down. Then put levers up and the notes should still be in tune. If notes are not in tune then it could be a lever issue and your levers would need to be adjusted. If notes are out of tune with levers up you may need to retune your harp accordingly.” Let us know how you get on with that.
