UPDATE - 02/01/2023: You really should warn people to not make the mistake of buying a newer McLane mower. For many years, the company was awesome and one of the best. But in just a short couple of years recently, the company as a whole has collapsed in quality and customer satisfaction. To put it mildly; these days the McLane company is GARBAGE, and their Reel Mowers are OVERPRICED, poorly designed and assembled TRASH, built using INFERIOR Parts assembled by idiots and backed by a customer service department and managers who are liars !!! Last year, I purchased a $2400 McLane Reel Mower. It was manufactured and shipped from the factory with a severely bent reel blade and sharpened as is. After 3 months began noticing a few unusual rattles and buzzing noises at different RPM's. I made adjustments but very soon after, more noises began developing, along with cracks in the Deflector shield and roller support frame. Within 6 months several defects began appearing, and it became apparent many of the problems were due to sloppy, amature quality welds and misalignment issues from the factory that finally caused stress fatigue and several premature part failures. My complaints to McLane were totally ignored. That is ...until they noticed my indisputable reviews, pictures and comments on several lawn care and product websites, then they were eager to issue a RMA number and take the mower back for a new replacement as they stated: "due to the unusual circumstances". As a courtesy, I removed the negative posts. But shortly into the return process, the trucking carrier said McLane wouldn't issue a bill of lading, and that I should contact McLane. After several failed attempts to contact the customer service manager (ANNA) by phone and email, she (Anna) sent me an email, and without any prior notification or contact, without any provocation or valid reasons provided, McLane's Customer Service Department was now saying they would no longer honor our previous agreement to cover the replacement for the defective factory installed parts or the numerous parts that have (and continue), prematurely failed due to the lack of craftsmanship and improperly assembled parts. After careful inspection, I have determined there could not possibly be any active, adequate quality control processes of the materials, parts used. And apparently there's no post assembly inspection done on McLane products before delivery to the customer. While they may have been a leader in quality lawn and turf maintenance equipment at one time, they are absolutely the worst today. A brief websearch will really reveal several McLane Mower owners ditching their newly purchased mowers for pennies on the dollar, while they still can, just to get rid of these poorly made pieces of junk before word gets out to the general public. !! BUYER BEWARE !! AVOID ALL McLane LAWNCARE EQUIPMENT PRODUCTS and do not Support McLane or any company that DOES NOT PROVIDE SUPPORT TO THEIR CUSTOMERS. They are LIARS, and THIEVES without any ethics or morals, (especially ANNA in McLane's Customer Support Dept). Simply put; McLane Lawn Equipment company doesn't honor their warranty or agreements to back up what they sell. Their verbal agreements are worthless and they lack ethical business standards. There's no integrity in any department in the company, and they have no honor or shame as they sell out piss-poor lawnmowers to unsuspecting customers. These $2400 mowers are not worth $200. McLane is a GARBAGE Company. They are owned and managed by Lying, Thieving, Morons, and their mowers are assembled inept hacks who couldn't care less that they are producing trash products. I WILL PROVIDE PICTURES AND DOCUMENTATION IF IT HELPS PROVE THAT I'M STATING THE TRUTH. I HOPE I CAN SAVE PEOPLE FROM BECOMING VICTIMS OF McLane Edgers and Mowers.

I just picked one of these up, probably one of the coolest mowers I've owned. Any worthwhile upgrades for these apart from the roller (will be getting one later). Unfortunately didn't come with a catcher either.
@HamStands2 жыл бұрын
Congrats! Yeah, McLanes are time-tested great designs. Aside from the front roller, there's not much else I can highly recommend. I would bite the bullet if you can swing the front roller. It's a vast improvement over the caster design and leaves the lawn looking slick and smooth. See reelrollers.com. Save some money and get a smooth roller. Check FB Marketplace for the catchers. It's a must-have item for scalping!

@@HamStands I like it so far! Now it's just getting the lawn how I want it, was planning on a grooved roller, and I'm going to make my own catcher. There's only about 2 hand fulls of reels for sale in my area. I had to travel about 4 hours for the one I got

Can this get down to 1/4”?
@HamStands2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it can. But the quality of cut won’t compare to a true greensmower at that low HOC. At its lowest setting, the bed knife will even kiss the concrete undulations in my garage when rolling back and forth. Lowest I can feasibly go is 1/2” with my bumpy, unleveled lawn - and that finds a few high spots that get “scalped” when I do a hard cut for a HOC reset. I maintain it at 5/8-3/4” throughout the year. Overall, your mileage may vary.
@RussC1232 жыл бұрын
@@HamStands Thanks for the info! I would just use the lowest HOC for a small chipping green, then keep the rest of the yard at like an inch. So I’m more interested in a quick/easy HOC adjustment (that can get around 1/4”) versus the perfect cut on the low end. It sounds like the California Trimmer may be able to mow a little lower than the McLane

Gonna blow base gaskets on that EVO riding like that. You have to warm it up at least a little bit.
@dad13662 жыл бұрын
hey at least he didn't just start revving it. thats what I was waiting for haha
@Friscorockhead2 жыл бұрын
@@dad1366 true. I've seen lots of guys bounce it off the rev limiter right after starting their machine, which is really dumb. I'd argue putting a load on the engine when it's cold is even worse. All engines need a little warm up time, some more than others...it's a well known fact that you'll blow your base gaskets if you don't warm up a Harley Evo. It's a simple way to increase the lifespan of an engine. Some people are just ignorant or dumb and they'll find out the hard way.
