Don't go. pls respect the place of the dead. I know a guy hiker who did something that angered the japanese spirits guarding the temple. he had to go find a Catholic priest exorcist to help him.

I don't believe your information that the British army destroyed it is correct. As I understand, the Japanese Soldiers were ordered to destroy it, in fears of defilement of the shrine before the surrender to the Allied forces.

This is a really heart-warming video. It's always great that people are willing to support causes that benefit the elderly in Singapore. I'm currently volunteering for a social initiative group that supports such a cause called: facebook.com/sghearts/

Firstly, it's in a natural reserve. And secondly the Japanese occuption had been a dark and painful part of our history. Any attempt to benefit it through tourism will be disrespectful to the victims of the war.

They should improve their productivity instead of complaining. If they have the talent they don't have to worry about foreign talents collecting more cardboard boxes than them. Stop complaining about our country. Practice responsive speech else Singapore will collapse.

The national average of 5.5K is masking the fact on the lower income and not better off group. In the first place I wonder how the 5.5K figure comes about. Even the average middle income earners like engineers don't make that much in Singapore.

I really admired those elderly who keep themselves active by doing constructive work and not giving their family children additional problems. I do encounter some elderly whom children gave them sufficient pocket money and they are greedy and choose to ask for more from them. Child have to save especially single ones whom when they grow old will have no children to support them. Yet these elderly just want to get all the money leaving no savings behind so as to spend on jewelries and any random stuff they can buy. The children worked hard to break out of the poverty cycle, yet some older generations just don't see the light and keep plunging the family hierarchy into poverty again and again. No wonder some child choose to remain single. With such elderly examples, the nightmare will never end, generations and on.

Hi! I am a supporter of free love myself. I am one of them closet unicorns and I crave for acceptance from my most loved ones too. I made a short animated film for my FYP during my last year in university. I believe in any small roles played in any small part of the society in whichever community. Therefore I hope I can do something with this film on my part. Please watch, and I hope my film "The Girl and Her Tail" can be screened in major events like Pink Dot or local film festivals. Please accept the LGBT community as they are, not like the monsters the conservatives made them out to be. The Girl and Her Tail

It's just hilarious to watch Khong suggesting that the acceptance of homosexuality comes from foreign sources, while he jets off to America to import that very American version of homophobia which he espouses. Homosexuality isn't imported from the West, homophobia and Baptist churches are.

Many of them had professional working lives when they were younger, paid into their CPF, only to lose access to their money as it was remade into a Ponzi scheme with continually skyrocketing Minimum Sums. Without rich children to support them, these Singapore Pioneer Generation members are left to fend for themselves when those responsible for leading us tell them "you die, your problem!" How to help older Singaporeans? The post-PAP Government _must_ institute a nationwide pensions program for all Singaporeans over 55, or those younger who cannot work due to their health and have insufficient family resources to support them. This would be paid for out of the existing CPF slush fund: the gap between the 2% we're paid on our OA and the actual yields from investing that are instead used to finance the most highly-paid Government in human history. We can do better. We can start in 2016, and we'll finish the job by 2021. Unfortunately, that won't help many of the over-70s now, who have to suffer as victims of National Narcissism until we can make things right. For that enduring shame, we owe our Pioneers the most heartfelt apologies and determined action that we can muster.

Jeff Dickey That may not be true for all cases. Say for one true case on the ground. The children can still manage to give the parent an amount enough to cover the basic food and lodging monthly. But the parent is very greedy and keep asking for all the money intending on leaving the children with no savings. So in this case I feel having the CPF is a good thing to make those greedy ones save some money. But it is a two sided blade that make those who are really in need fall out of its helping range.

unteroffizier There are always exceptions to every generalisation; that doesn't make the plight of the vast majority any less dire. It merely requires that we exercise more sympathetic tact and less ham-fisted paternalism than _this_ Government have in recent decades.
