I have a similar model fridge and the light does not work. Switch tests out fine. Want to test for power at the light socket but I do not know how to get the temp dial off to remove the trim and get access to the screw. Can you advise?

I have one very much like this, mine is not so pretty. I like your 'on -off' and temp dials. Mine must have been the El cheapo model as it is plane. Mine does work well and is pretty quiet. I saw a video where a man had one that frosted up quickly, but he replaced his gasket and it basically stopped frosting up so much. I have mine on a timer, to run for 12 hours and turn off for an hour and run for another 12 hours, etc. 'With a little tray under the ice cube cooler part to catch the frost that melts on the 'off cycle'. I do occasionally turn mine into the defrost cycle for an hour. Love those monitor tops.

The most surprised thing about this video was despite having a full set of tools, including openend/box end wrenches sitting right beside him, he used an adjustable crescent wrench. Surely someone in the HVAC business knows how to use proper tools

I've got one of those too I'd like to restore and it still works. I'm sure it needs rewiring.. Do you hire out to refurbish? I have a lot of questions... Did you repaint it or have it enameled? Are there any restorers in the DALLAS area? TIA

This looks like an early 1950’s model. On five and off thirty sounds perfect to me - and yes, you must change out the door gasket - it’ll never work properly without that.

Need to find a parts manual on eBay or online it will have all your parts numbers. But all I did was put my model number HD 25 Johnson on eBay and the rebuild kit popped up. But once you get the manual with the parts numbers you can go to marineengine.com put your parts numbers in and they still have some of the parts or a substitution

David Allen has several videos repairing the control of Westinghouse. They were unique because it was a relay and thermostat combined. The gravity connection component likes to rust and lock up. Drilling is required to repair it.

It sounds good, and the control looks good! As for the fan, it's definitely running too slow. I bet it needs more oil.

Funny seeing a compressor that big for a refrigerator that small. I guess that's why they lasted so long.
@moorescomfortsystemsheatin60682 жыл бұрын
Yes they ran in about half the rpm

It probably helps to regulate the temperature better when there's more thermal mass inside. Maybe put a big pack of water bottles in and see how it does.

I take it the original compressor's windings were so high in resistance that it no longer had the power to start/run with a full charge?
@moorescomfortsystemsheatin60683 жыл бұрын
I think so. I cut it open and there was a burn out
@DandyDon13 жыл бұрын
@@moorescomfortsystemsheatin6068 That will do it every time! It must have been quite low on oil/refrigerant and allowed to run for too long. I remember the day a compressor of one of the built in beer coolers at a bar I worked for started to short cycle. It had been there for 30+ years. Incredible how the replacement unit was so much smaller.

My grandparents had a Frigidaire older than this one. It had a Delco-Remy 1/6 HP motor and two cylinder compressor, complete with drive belt.

@@moorescomfortsystemsheatin6068 I believe the separate motor/compressor units from this era were still using Ammonia Gas (NH3/R717), long before R12 was introduced.

Very nice work, ! So If you have an old fridge and the compressor craps out, you can just replace it with any fridge compressor of similar HP? I have an old international fridge that works great, but should I ever need to replace the pump I want to know I have options. Oh I have used 152a in lots of auto AC systems
