I only upload things you can't find elsewhere but besides an older cut of the Buck 65 Synesthesia record I don't think many people are fans of Serp... of Machina Muerte. There's probably only one other album I put on KZbin that some heads might appreciate like this. The joint release from Exist and Paris Zax that had Blue Soul for a single. The rest of that one is the most consistent of that emcee"s releases, with the possible exception of Candy's 22 projects that allow Barfly to carry the weight necessary to create an LP with little to no skippable tracks. And it's in large part because Paris has his own slant on hip hop that emphasizes analog sounds, particularly those of the blues tradition, but instead of the way Jon Spencer's band finds and will steal the funkiest, nastiest riffs to rock out for kids who don't know or care if the music is derivative, if sometimes masterful or just plain fum in being so irreverent and sloppy, Paris does not do what you'd expect from a hip hop producer who enjoys the blues, just looking for the breaks and hooks he wants to reuse for his music. It's more a matter of how he brings that grit and sweat to every composition, borrowing elements that convey that mood in all these unexpected ways which allows him to use a wide variety of elements that contain harmonies and irresistible hooks because there's a texture to the sound that brings depth to what would remain average if someone else took the primary musical elements to fuse them together because they wouldn't use the same kind of subtle touches Daddy Kev put on this one, although it feels like there's a reason Daddy Kev is the one who put out the only Paris Zax solo album I've found, on Bandcamp. And it's because he recognizes that there's something new going on, in the details that brings character to each track and it's about how one puts it all together. So this is an older album. So ground breaking but in Slanguage the sorts of textures I mention are more an element he begins to utilize in the moments they become overwhelming because in those sections he's going hard as hell into the free jazz aspect of this project. And when he brings it all back in again, it can feel minimalist, in the way hip hop is meant to feel. But I think Paris strikes a sort of balance in the way he brings the same sorta wild and very organic texture to his songs, every time he makes a track. But this has nothing to do with it drifting into sheer surrealist chaos, with the risk of failure outweighing the percentage of success that still feels pretty magical when you reflect on the fact... nobody ever showed you can do this, too, with the same tech, so Slanguage is forever in my heart. But what I mean is there's a way Paris at least tried to allow for a cohesive song structure without giving up on the organic aspects of recording something that has analog elements, that don't just loop something, spliced together, yes, but then rarely changing all that much, and when it does change it sounds very sequenced. He doesn't; overdo it so it's kinda subtle but I have definitely noticed he will construct his song out of parts that he must throw together live and forces himself to aim for the same level of success any live performer aims for, but It alters the feel of track and then utilizing mostly core blues instrumentation, it doesn't sound like any old average boring rap song anymore. It isn't played up to be all Amadeus, virtuosic, the way I would say Daddy Kev doesn't shy away from, and it is the riskiest risks he took... But you hear it's unique, that it isn't just the same loops that you trade in and trade out, ababacadab in patterns.... And so it's hard to describe, but I don't think that kid Zax gets enough credit. And I'm glad that Daddy saw it, and gave him a chance. Hope he has more music that comes out in the near future, even if it's not even a career with a liveable wage anymore. Not how it was, little glamor left in it.

Oh, and this is the album I went on about and compared with this one as I was giving this very old favorite a listen kzbin.info/aero/PL98RrnHth1VmYwne3S4AAcBTNu6v5W4Fm Heck, may even shit on my socks again... if I wanna scrape into that bottom rock until I catch sparks, then act confused the diarrhea in my shoe won't summon Prometheus. But his silence can freal be puzzling, as I see car after car making its way down the avenue, throwing sparks everywhere, and so often it feels like a common occurrence, after the tire is blown, when the sparks fly off that rotor til the concrete shreds it down to the hub? They just keep going til they kill the shit. So where is he? All that heat, his shit, like fuck a creator if they never wanted their creation to live free, to meet their glance, to live on the edge where risk and adventure but also the spirit of reform, loud enough voices to get us off these Nowhereville, figure 8 expressways to hell, so where is that fool... sure he poses for IG when the ricers do their burnouts, the only difference with a blown out tire people keep driving on until everything just finally cracks, they can't keep going, just over that hill, just one more hill, no, can't destroy someone else's property any further, because shit collapsed, and it all just stopped moving, it's the same as figure 8s Except this trick is more like a big NUMBER ONE, you don't know how far it will go but you know it only goes in one direction. This magic trick is a one-time performance. But what's so unique is that usually the performer knows his tricks inside and out and the only joy they receive is in the sense of wonder they inspire in the crowd. This trick is the one of the few you may see the magician wake up to, broadening their understanding of its mechanics.. the facts of how the trick works. See, it's not quite a #1. No, it's a simple line from point A to point B until you kill the shit, dead. And maybe you will be as rude as me, and point out to someone that it runs its course in the shape of a lower case L. But maybe wait for them to figure that out. Be safe, y'know. There is that side to the story of Prometheus, but I'm also serious about nobody bringing anything dangerous anymore that isn't as simple minded as simple self destruction. There used to be real voices with dangerous things to say that promised change. Shit needs to evolve. Where's George Carlin? Chuck D? What opportunities did they have... that we don't seem to find anymore? Surely we aren't out of stupid people. There's no shortage of problems. It's not some sci-fi thing, Prometheus is the spirit of rebellion when values are sufficient to believe there's something worth fighting for. And the painful loss endured due to the inherent limitations of putting all your eggs in that basket. But could we just get one egg in that basket and one voice in the current gauge that represents the indomitable spirit that countless popular figures, from all walks of life and different genres, all with their own message, unique and not working in tandem to drive our culture forward. It used to be a ubiquitous force one felt was alive and well in this country. For to long... Slowly... Fucking little by little... Going insane. But damn that was rude of me, about your internal organs bro. I'll find a way to make this up to you... and as always, Prometheus, I do appreciate the flames. Gratitude...

Oh my god @@acsone3546I remember that day now that I sat there writing that for so long and I seem to remember I was having a pretty emotional experience of things that haven't been going so well in my life hey, my attitude is about society in general. I'm honored that you read it all and it's a relief to see it elicited such a positive response because I definitely went into one of my rants and since it involved hearing this again for the first time in a while I probably attempted to be quite poetic and my first thought as I noticed how long the comments were was to feel incredibly concerned that I was not in a healthy state of mind. I'm so down to hear the collaboration you speak of once it's ready to be shared... Or I could give you an email address if you felt more comfortable sending it in its current state if it remained private... Well just let me know because I know it's been a long time but I will try to check back again soon. KZbin just never sends me notifications if I get a reply to a comment. I basically have to have these conversations by randomly going back to a video that I forgot I left a comment on. So I will just have to try to remember and I can just give out my email here if you are interested in that idea because you could share it more privately and I would keep it to myself. You know what? I just thought of this example of something that I had kept to myself and never shared anywhere, because I knew that Cadalack & Serp never received authorization from the beatmaker, Sapient. And I think it still does count, because this got sent in 2007 and have never leaked it all this time. But now that Rob has passed, it feels more the right thing to do to get this out there finally, for the people to enjoy it who would appreciate what an amazing piece of art they brought into existence, just inspired by the sound of Sapient's beat to write and record lyrics together at the home studio they must have been using, probably over at Serp Dot's crib, where they'd churned out so many other classics that got put out on various albums and mixes, including a few on his only "best of" comp that got that one title, "Il Purgatorio... The Beast of Cadalack Ron", or something along those lines. It's his only mix of various previously recorded songs that got an official release and can be streamed on Spotify and iTunes because all the legal stuff was addressed to get proper publishing rights set up. He used to put out his own mixes that compiled much of his favorite songs he'd been working on with the artists he respected and he would call this mix "Bloody Rare". Well, he did that twice, at least, because I've got two entirely different mix CDs that are both called Bloody Rare in a folder that I have uploaded to Dropbox, which isn't altogether complete but has a vast majority of the music he recorded over the course of his life. It's actually pretty cool that I still keep finding other songs he did, usually with an artist I had never heard of who oversaw the release, but I still do stumble onto new things lately? Anyway, I'm going to put this sucker out even though I never did, all these years. It just was way too good for nobody to have ever have heard this song. And it's from an era when he was spelling most every word with an "s" in it with a "z" in place of the original letter. Most often, this was done when the "s" was only in the word to pluralize it, so, for example, many of the tracks on "Dead at 27" are going to have titles that end with letter "z". My song on that got called "Urgez". But the one I decided I'm gonna figure out a quick video for and put on here is a track I've loved all these years that is named "Cobra Commanderz ft. Serp..."
