I just pulled out a 30 year old mixed tape I made and this is on it. OH MY GOD. I am grinning ear to ear right now.

This song is like classic-material, it's as if it were written and recorded yesterday. It stunningly stands the test of time.

You know you have made it when Dolly Parton sings background vocals on your song. Alison Krauss has the voice of an angel. Waylon Jennings said of all the songs he recorded this was his favorite.

Eva Cassidy’s friend, Elaine Stonebraker told in an article on one of Eva Cassidy's websites how Eva learned this song: She wrote, ‘One day, Eva and I drove over to the Eastern Shore (across the Chesapeake Bay) in her new, little, blue car. I had a tape of a recent radio program that had featured Songs by Robert Burns, and she popped it into her cassette drive. When “My Luv is Like a Red, Red Rose” came on, she said, “That is the most beautiful song I have ever heard.” So the entire remainder of the trip consisted of me hitting the rewind button and trying to write down the words - again and again! She had the gist of it by the time we got home.’ Elaine adds, ‘The radio program was Traditions, Mary Cliff’s Saturday night program on WETA. It was taped during the annual Robert Burns program, which coincides with the famous Robert Burns Suppers around the world. The singer was Davy Steele, the singer in Ceolbeg. Eva said that she loved his voice and that it was “the perfect man’s voice.”‘ Go listen to Davy Steele's version, and you'll see why Eva fell in love with this song. It's beautiful, too!!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKGqhaSfftF4iZo

Didn't Cathy Le Surf sing in Fiddlers Dram who released a single called Day Trip To Bangor? The 'B' side of the single was called The Flash Lad which was used as the theme to the UK TV series Dick Turpin, who in the series had a young apprentice highwayman called Swift Nick. Actor Richard O Sullivan was great in the role of Turpin.

The second line should read 'That upon a right time' and the line-final commas are superfluous. A better transcription would be: Have you ever seen a sign That upon a right time There were angels? We all lose track 'Cause upon our backs, Feel the weight of them Why they fall is hard tell, But some things you can't buy or sell Yeah, we all hurt the ones we love And we don't need a reason We only give what we think we deserve And that's something to believe in I think I've seen a sign But its a very fine line If you want it all And don't lose track For upon our backs There's no weight of wings When they shine is hard to say But some things never fade away We only hurt the ones we love Why, we don't need a reason We only give what we think we deserve And that's something to believe in So I've been calling angels down to Earth And I don't need a reason Calling angels down to Earth Because I believe we need them We only hurt the ones we love Why, we don't need a reason You're gonna get all that you deserve And all that you believe in Do you believe in? Do you need them? If you need them Do you know? Do you need them? If you need them Do you know? Do you need them? If you need them

This is on an album that came out a year after I was divorced. With a title like "Forget About It", and magnificently melancholy songs like this, you will not be surprised I played it and cried a lot.
