So yet another greedy landlord. That figures. They should be made to convert it back as they didn’t apply for permission beforehand - and a fine issued! So basically, anyone can do it as they want then seek permission later which is a dangerous precedent. I seriously hope that the management company drag them through the courts for breach of lease and make an example of them.

I understand the Distance noise does travel, Museum Gdns to Westminster Road is around (approx. 500 mtrs) I live on Acomb Rd and the Knavemire is 2000 mtrs. But what I find is "Councillors seem to have no idea of the City they are Councillors for. Lastly "POP Music" bands have a tendency to be Loud and in a Historic City Centre. "Guidance is GUIDANCE" seems Common Sense has been thrown out. Also get your DB Levels real .

How does the boardwalk connect into the cycle crossing of Tower Street from St George's Field to connect into Picadilly and other parts of the safe cycling network in the city? Will a 3m wide boardwalk align with LTN 1/20?

The whole point of the original design - in which we invested many hours of our own time and resources for free - was to remove cars from this site and create a safe, open and flexible space for play, entertainment and creativity/markets etc. I have never seen all the disabled parking spaces in use - how many spaces are actually used and needed (there must be plenty of CCTV available to determine this) and how much of that could be accommodated on the streets and/or other car parks adjacent to the site? Disabled parking dominated the last local elections and this is a political decision that is going to derail a once-in-a-generation (at least) opportunity that could provide multiple benefits to everyone in the city. To live in a city with many thousands of other people means compromise and compromise needs to be found now.

Have followed this proposal for a number of years, hope it can now progress! Really like the addition of a boardwalk behind the courts and a linking bridge to a river walk. But still too much of the green space given over to car parking, even with Option 1. By reducing this to 10 spaces would give an open view from Tower green to the River Foss. Please rethink.

when 2 councillors leave, is that a true Committee meeting. As for the Flag Thing, I believe that sad mumbling, and confusion over what if a Flag and why No Flag Pole at West Offices. This is a very nice idea with a lot of very positive attributes, after all, having more green space within the city can only be a good thing. However, I still don't see how this could be done in a way that is safe or stays well managed in the long run. Despite what some would say in the Press, the council teams looking after our existing green spaces work hard to keep them looking as good as they can with what relatively little resource they have. I can't imagine they would ever receive the necessary additional resource to keep the gardens in this plan from becoming dilapidated over time. Gardening is a lot more work than this plan seems to account for, and you can see the issue by looking at the green spaces York already has. Newly revamped spaces like College Green are great public assets, but they weren't able to fully maintain the planting even a year after it reopened, and that is maintained by the hard working team at York Minster who simply aren't given the means to do any more. They have done an amazing job, but they were already overstretched, then given the burden of more work, with more gardens to maintain and no consideration as to how they would manage it after the space redeveloped. The Castle Museum's Mill area is kept on top of by the staff at YMT who have their hands full looking after the Museum Gardens. They keep on top of the mill area, but aren't able to do much more, as they don't have the resource to go beyond that, and there would be no point in them trying as for years now they have been kept in limbo by this project as to whether or not the area is getting taken away from them and having bridges, paths and such built through it. On that note what happens to the Mill itself given that it is a part of the Museum's collection? What about the wildlife back there already like the foxes, bee orchids or even the migrating birds (I've seen everything from waxwings to lesser red poll back there)? Where would vehicles go for the museum, such as vans doing long term repairs for aerated concrete, or updating museum displays, or even just deliveries and staff vehicles? There's fire escapes to the rear of the buildings, so how could they be kept safely operational with the boardwalk in place? The Castle Museum is a heritage and tourist asset to the city and its wellbeing is neglected here. On the matter of maintainance, given some of Yorks best green spaces are looked after by charities like the Minster, YMT or JRT, and it is a struggle for them (and again I commend them for the impressive work they do), who would manage the gardens in this plan and how? Better examples would be spaces currently maintained by the council. The Memorial Gardens are given the odd grass cut, but there is not much complex planting there. It has to be kept simple for ease of maintainance. Some spaces are fortunate to have generous and hard working volunteers supporting them like Rowntrees Park, but there is a limit to what volunteers can feasibly do, and they need to work from somewhere, which these plans don't account for. The best existing comparison to this space would be North Steet Gardens. The last thing York needs is another space like that. North Street Gardens are just about kept on top of. Grass cut, tree work when it's needed, and so on. But even with attempts to bring some interest to the space, such as with the Snow Memorial, it is overlooked as a space at best and avoided more often than not. There is no seriously substantial or complex planting and any attempt to plant some would be futile. How would the council teams be able to make time to maintain it to a worthwhile standard when they already have so much to do, and who would keep it from being vandalised? Whilst some anti social behaviour is a disappointing nuance, like dogs fouling in the area and running off leads through plants, or kids breaking things for a laugh, North Street Gardens surfers far worse than that. There has been issues with drink and drugs there forever and a day, with little that can be done to address the matter. How can these spaces be kept from accumulating smashed bottles and used needles? Who is checking for this and deterring that behaviour be it day or night. North Street Gardens isn't a good place to head to for a spot of lunch or to bring the kids for a run around. It isn't comfortable being there when it is quiet, spare a few folk hanging around up to no good, or you're sat with a view of a tent with cans by the door. Worse still was the current police matter regarding the attack there just this week. York isn't the only place to suffer these issues. That being said, everything possible should be done to prevent them. Nobody would want to see or even hear of another attack like that again. Part of preventing that is removing the opportunities for them to take place. Having more areas, with unclear maintainance prospects, little to no oversight, and areas out of general sight, it is neither sensible nor safe. How would the narrow area along the river be safe, given how overgrown it is and how much more overgrown it could easily become? How would anti social behaviour be monitored and dettered, be the matters big or small. The riverside path down from Picadilly behind Fenwicks already attracts some problems, as even on a good day there's litter and the lingering smell of urine. Is it wise to increase the opportunity for this and more? Does the back of the Museum with it's historically significant walls and collections water mill need to risk graffiti and smashed windows? How will having a bridge connecting almost directly to a Weatherspoons not lead to vomit in hedgerows and smashed glass on the paths, or even people winding up in the Foss as they have done before? Who is going to keep litter from congregating between the kids stepping stones? What would be done to stop people letting dogs off leads, only to go running through the flowerbeds or off between cars? Any green space can face these issues, but they need to be seriously considered at the planning stage, before avoidable risks get baked into a scheme and become unsolvable. York doesn't need another North Street Garden. It needs a green space that is attractive, desirable, usable and safe. A garden for the future with real world considerations visible in its design. More than what some would like, but what most need. That's the Castle Gateway project worth delivering on. Nothing less.

And I thought councils were cash strapped. Seems a lot of money to be spent tarting up the station entrance when if you put a bus gate outside the station could stop most of the traffic and not need all the very expensive infrastructure works.

So less shelter for bus passengers and further away from the Station,, little or no shelter for those waiting for Taxis. (This is Yorkshire, IT RAINS) Removal of the cycle repairers. Removal of access to the rear entrance via tearoom Square. Restriction of goods access to Hotel. What an absolute waste of time and money.

From what I have seen most meetings like this accomplish very little. In this time of recession we need to be more efficient. Focus on the core tasks and ditch all the pointless exercises. Especially the surveillance & digital recording of everyones sex race religion income educational history for analysis and creating graphs and reports. If there is limited money the main way to stop or reduce discrimination is to get the core issues dealt with so people dont keep angrily blaming people who claim disability benefits and people who have moved here from abroad. We need to put the blame squarely on the fact that people are being taken away from their core tasks to do endless paperwork and gathering surveillance data that is invasive. I have been to meetings like this and they are largely presentations of data which is pretty much the same every time & then people presenting what has already been decided to get a show of hands as the final box tick. £1000s are paids for people to travel long distances to these meetings and then they just sit for hours and nothing is accomplished. Sometimes there is a lot of self pampering during these events too spending a lot of money buttering everyone up to make sure they raise their hands at the right moments to approve things.
