I am studying for NCLEX now and the source I am studying from states to hyperventilate, but this lady just said not to hyperventilate at 04:17
@kathleenshea4625
@kathleenshea4625 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question, to clarify....the patient should be hyperoxygenated prior to the suctioning procedure which means to administer oxygen using oxygen source ( ventilator or bag valve mask). When hyperoxygenating, the nurse administers a small breath with each breath that is initiated by the patient. Hyperventilation would be when the nurse increased the rate of respirations using the oxygen source. Perhaps the terminology was confusing to you.

Otherwise perfect, but: FOWLER POSITION< DAMMIT! What the HELL is the MATTER with you!? NEVER FLAT/. NOI, when on Vent, check to see if their PEEP is at or below 5 OR at or above 10 p VERY iportant differences. If on Vent and PEEP is et, NO hyper is indicated! Also, if on vent, THEY SHOULD BE ON A T-TIBE (Closed suction system!!!) Arhythmia? NO you would look for Vagal stim ala Brady!!

I could be wrong, but isn't the sterile field broken once the tube has entered the client's throat?
@DanLoFat
@DanLoFat 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are wrong.
@donleishman1335
@donleishman1335 7 жыл бұрын
It didn't enter his throat , so much, as his endotracheal tube. Yes the inside of the ETT is non- sterile but theoretically these are bugs that he already has. We don't want to introduce NEW ones.

same tubing will be use for endotracheal tube and mouth?
@EdRovera
@EdRovera 8 жыл бұрын
Endotracheal suctioning is a sterile technique. It is done using sterile technique and using sterile suctioning tubing usually using a 12 - 14Fr suction catheter. Endotracheal or nasal tracheal suction, anything that goes beyond the vocal chords can only be approached with a sterile tubing. So that is why if you want to do both deep suctioning (lung) and then upper (mouth) you must do the sterile area first, then you can do the mouth with the same catheter after. You can only use the suctioning tubing for one session of suctioning. So if pt needs frequent suctioning you need to have lots of sets of suctioning tubing. If you only want to do the mouth-you can use any suctioning tubing-the Yankauer is the preferred for the mouth because is has a larger opening for secretions. Since the mouth is non sterile-the Yankauer tube can be used over and over-just clear it of recreations in-between suctioning and keep it clean. You can use the smaller suctioning tubing as well-just remember if you use it for the mouth you can never go deep suctioning for the sterile area after with that same catheter.-Sandy Frojelin, RN

Trach first, then mouth, never the other direction. Mouth is NOT a sterile environment.

*Crossing the New Eastern Span of the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge* Hitting the bridge at 0600 hrs. I have to be honest, it was an anticlimax. I know the new span cost $6.4 BILLION and took 11 years to build but it was a lot like driving through the skeleton of a speared fish. In the daylight it was even less impressive. The one sort of, kind of cool thing is the pedestrian/bicycle path that goes almost to Yerba Buena Island. I know, it is a bike path to nowhere right now, but the view from the end has to be great. When they finally finish the permanent connection to the island and people can go from Oakland to Yerba Buena and Treasure Islands it will really be a nice day trip for people. Now, if you live in Oakland, Emeryville or Berkeley and you want to bike to work in San Francisco, you are SOL because there are no plans to put a bike lane on the Western Span. PS: I didn't realize my windshield was so dirty. Sorry about that. folks.

Lawrence Kreger The entire span -- SF to Oakland -- is a bit over 7 miles. I actually do not know how long the eastern span is/was. Wonder if you can Google that...
