Hello I am enjoying your content so much Dr. Mahrous. I've got 2 questions that I couldnt find from textbook. 1) Can you put rest seat on existing composite or amalgam? 2) If pt already has an existing crown but if you want to put clap/rest seat do you have to change to surveying crown? Thank you!

Thank you for the comments. 1) the evidence suggests you can place a rest on a filling or amalgam given that the restoration is sound with no decay underneath 2) yes patients will need to have a new crown made, while it might be possible to have a rest seat prepared on a crown, there is no way of knowing if the remining thickness of material will have sufficient strength

The third molars usually do not get replaced so it is assumed that it will not be replaced and thus the space is not counter as a space in the classification
