Steeleye Span is and will probably always be my favorite band of all time. half century of great music... Have basically all of their albums, and obscura. It's an amazing Oeuvre... Have pretty much their entire discography on MP3 in my car. Never gets old! Take a look at things like Harvest of the Moon, King Henry, Boys of Bedlam (from Dodgy Bastards, I think, either that or the 50th anniversary tour; he later remake is so much better than their original more muted rendition from the 70s and captures the insanity amazingly well). Long Lankin, Black Freighter, Let Her Go Down, Demon of the Well, The Song Will Remain, Skewball, so many great songs from the last 5 decades!

The Metallica toilet is a classic shirt of theirs that said "metal up your ass", the electric chair obvs a ride the lightning reference, the stick guy is their first sorta logo from way back when everyone had mascots (see Iron Maidens Eddie for example), the coffin is death magnetic, and then we have justice for all and Master of puppets left. Btw, I recently mixed a super epic band from Denmark called The Movement. They are like a mod revival type band and they are incredible live.

Probably no one will ever see this comment but whatever. This wasn't just folk rock. Steeley Span reinterpreted traditional and even ancient English and Celtic songs. A much better known group called Fairport Convention is better described as folk rock and had a more mainstream but nonetheless excellent sound. You may have heard of guitarist Richard Thompson and superb vocalist Sandy Denny from that group. And, yes, Maddy Prior is a fabulous singer. Her collaboration with June Tabor is iconic.

Avant Garde "electric folk" (but also jigs, a cappella and all manner of different genres and subject matter). IMO, nobody holds a candle to Steeleye Span... Tried to get into Fairport Convention, Pentangle, etc. But none of them measured up, IMO... Steeleye Span is the progenitor par excellence, IMO...

I'm 65 and I think it's the best new band I've heard in a while. They are remarkably young to be so experienced in the ugly backside of love. I've been there...I get it, guys...they are so very good. Sexiness? Seriously? Let me just say I wouldn't kick ANY of them out of bed for eating crackers. And I love how together they seem to be. I roadied way back when. I love the wordplay in English, and just how smooth and sexy stuff sounds in Italian. Sounds like a lot of...power exchange. Blacken my eye, set fire to my tie. Give me every bit of your....intense attention. I preferred fur-lined leather manacles over velvet rope, but to each their own.

Very interesting review. Steeleye Span are still going strong and one of my favourite bands. The only original member is lead singer Maddy Prior now. All Around My Hat is their most recognizable song but not really that typical of their their vast bsck catalogue. In fact, many hard core fans from the very early days don't like this song because they feel its against their folk roots. It is always included in the live shows at the end as their anthem. If you were to explore more of their music you might be pleasantly surprised. They have always evolved and moved with the times, unlike many older bands who just peddle the same tired old setlist. Always an albums band, not a singles band. Maddy is a lovely lady and still an amazing performer at 76.

Ha, you should really look into Gotye a bit more too if you think he only did one song 😄 Somebody That I Used To Know was the only megahit, but that has more to do with Wally's lifestyle than his skills as a musician. He had another song that was played quite a bit and you may even have heard at some point called Your Heart's A Mess. My personal favourite of his is Bronte (except that I almost never listen to it because it makes me cry, but I'm a dog person so it hits a bit too close). I also love Eyes Wide Open, Thanks For Your Time, Baby, Coming Back, and State Of The Art to name a few. With Gotye you should always check out the official music videos for any song that has one. He made a point of using independent, small animators and pretty much gave them free hands with to portray the song however they wanted to. Great stuff, albeit slightly disturbing at times. He's used a lot of sampling, and also plays many instruments on his own tracks, pretty much all the percussions. On live shows he always travelled with a band, but still runs on the stage between the drums and keyboards and who knows what weird instruments on times to cram all the totally essential sounds in 😄 Wally's also a part of an Australian rock band called The Basics, where he plays the drums and sings on some of the tracks. They all sing and change the lead depending on the song. Their style as a band is way more traditional than Gotye's solo project, think more along the lines of The Beatles when it comes to influences. I'm a Måneskin fan too, but followed Gotye for a lot longer. He has been called a one hit wonder a lot, but he really shouldn't have been. By the sound of it he would have been happier if STIUTK never got quite that famous 😄 After that fame he toured the world for a bit, then moved onto a farm somewhere in Australia, had a kid, and probably has a collection of the most bizarre instruments in a barn somewhere that he plays just for fun. The band exists on social media and very occasionally posts a snippet of something to prove they're not dead 😁

This is the first video I've seen from you, so will need to check your other Måneskin reactions before I add anything on the suggestions list. But you're right, Måneskin really has a great fanbase in general. I think it's partially down to who they are and what they represent, and just the variety of people who've fallen in love with them. People from different continents, different genders, and different ages makes a healthier mix than, say, a group consisting mostly of teenage girls 🤣 Måneskin also seems to represent unusually wholesome values as a band. They know they're good and believe in themselves, but at the same time they keep each other grounded. They started the band as teenagers, but made a rule rightbfrom the beginning that band practise is something they can't skip with any excuse. The results for all those hours of work are showing now. Then there's all the support they've shown for diversity, and not just accepting differences but openly embracing them. They're very much in your face and can appear even arrogant on the surface, but they don't go around destroing hotel rooms or requiring any star treatment even though they could. They still sound like normal people when they give interviews and such. The toxic, petty, narrowminded people hate them and mostly stay away, which leaves a pretty nice bunch of fans 😄

You guys are simply the best! We appreciate all the love and feedback on our Måneskin videos. It's insane how motivating and uplifting it is to witness. This is a band who understands their fanbase to the core. They have an absolute clear sense of their values as artists and express it so well with their music, visuals and their performance. We are getting more and more "fanboy-ish" with every track we listen to. This is a band that'll last generations and we are 100% here for it.

Hello, their best lyrics, which you might like, are in Italian (Coraline, Vent'anni, Mark Chapman, Il Dono della Vita). An exception is Trastevere, in English, as long as it is known that it talks about a pact made with the devil (the starsystem?) which they have no intention of respecting 😉

Interesting that people read trastevere this way. I mean, obviously, the verse talks about the pact, selling your heart and life for succes, but the chorus imo talks about the consequrnce of this pact- loosing someone. I'd say he talks about his girlfriend, since the other songs literally talk about having to choose between her and career.

Thank you so much for this in depth comment and we loved to hear your theories about these lyrics. You may be right with all of this and we love the idea of seeing the entire album as a love letter - either to a love lost or to himself. We got surprised like never before with this song, because of the confident breakdown/uplift and the "rawness" of their style. The lyrics always divide us a bit but that's the beauty of Måneskin. Their art makes people talk and we are all here for it. We love to make our reviews entertaining and the Måneskin fanbase makes it so much more fun for us to dive into these songs! 🍹🎧

I think the lyrics for this one make a lot more sense in the context of Rush! (Are U Coming) deluxe version, with the other new tracks, because they sort of tell a story. Damiano (singer and lyricist) has recently broken up his last relationship with someone he'd been with for six or seven years, since he was a teenager, and a lot of these songs seem to be processing those feelings: - Valentine is the break up, the denial, holding on to something that's over. - Off My Face is getting over who that prior relationship made you become, likening those feelings to a drug, and needing to come off of them. - Honey (Are U Coming) is meeting someone new who feels just as lost as you do, and letting yourself be hopeful again, inviting that person to a new adventure. - The Driver is the surrender to those new feelings and this new person, accepting this new intensity and whatever it brings, even if it's just for a while, even if it's not gonna last (like fire). I think what Damiano does very well as a lyricist is leaving his stuff open to different interpretations (is it a love song? is it an addiction song?), but he tends to write about a love that is very intense, and doesn't shy away from the idea of submission and vulnerability when he does so, which is what The Driver is all about (including that velvet rope bit!). I think it catches people by surprise because his depiction of love and passion isn't from an aggressive or dominant point of view, and it puts great emphasis on his partner's pleasure - sometimes over his own. That's not super common of male singers, generally. So when he says "Give me eyes, then twist the knife/ Put me under your spell/ Then hide the crime", I think he's talking about this love affair like he's offering himself to someone else's mind games, to this game of push and pull, to someone that will seduce him then pull away. He's asking this person to leave him helpless and take everything, because he's willing to give everything. It's about passion (and sex), framing this submission as both freeing for himself and an act of love for this partner. It's not a perspective you see often coming from men, which is why I find it so interesting.

First things first: you win! The purchasing campaign worked, I signed up... and with pleasure too. You made me laugh. No, don't sneer satisfied, you made me laugh at your "northernness" and I'm referring to how you approached the lyrics. But I had fun. By the way... Victoria is, in many ways, the most Roman of the 4. Culturally, for the way she speaks (in dialect) and for how she says swear words. Constantly. However you are right, her mother was Danish, Victoria speaks it and therefore perhaps she will also understand Swedish. But I am sure that she is also able to understand the metaphors in Damiano's lyrics. Speaking of metaphors, go and listen to "Coraline" live in Sanremo and activate the English subtitles, maybe you'll change your mind. Thanks for improving my mood today.😝🥰
