Looks awesome mate. I think I'm just going to copy your setup :) Hey out of interest what size wire rope did you use and do they run ok with the two cables running through the single pulleys?

Thank you. The cable size is 3/16". I haven't had any issues at all with two cables running through the same pulley. Since both cables move at the same time, the outer seems to ride the inner without any friction. Good luck with your project!

Does the Suzuki work on the kayak without the auto starter? Or same issue? What is the total weight of the motor with all the mods? Thanks
@plainandsimplefishing11 ай бұрын
It didn't seem to take on any water before the addition of the auto starter and actuators. Although, it was a bit squirrely. The bow cutting through the water at high speed seems to make it a bit unstable. The added weight in the stern definitely helps with that. I am hoping to find a happy medium with some future tuning. The total weight with the added mods according to my very mediocre scale is around 37 lbs.

Thank you. This is a very cool mod to this 2.5hp! Nice work.

I have to say this, You sir by far have one of the most AWESOME conversions of a kayak i ever seen ! making that suzuky in to a electric start if pure genius ! I have experimented whit several kayaks and motors from cheap to really expensive and i run in to the same problems you have when putting the motor in the back i experience the same thing the stern wants to dip to much, I try the hydrofoil as well and have the same result as you had, funny i also went and add a trolling motor in the bow and it did help but not fix the issue because at speed the stern will dip no mater what, and now whit the extra weight in the front it make the kayak really unstable especially when turning, and in choppy water was really bad , after a lot off failures i found i video of a guy whit a long outrigger and the motor set up by the side of the kayak next to the seat , it was a total pain to convert the kayak to accept the outrigger but i absolutely love this set up , I fish mostly the beach and this set up is incredible stable i can even stand up in the kayak no problem, and have a lot of extra room in between the kayak and the out rigger, i have try the solo skiff and is a solid option if you fish clam water but for the ocean i did not like it , the real problem that i encounter whit the long outrigger is assembling and disassembling the set up , it took me a long time to refine the system but i got it down now.

Thank you for the compliments and the insight. I think I know exactly which video you are talking about. I like the idea of outriggers for offshore. I think that would be awesome. For freshwater, I prefer a skinnier craft to get through reeds and some of the rougher stuff. You’ve definitely inspired me to take another look at this. Thank you again!

if you weren't building another , boat I would put a defuser, small peice plastic or aluminum in front of opening to stop water from coming in while underway??

That's a good thought. I was thinking about something like this as well. The bottom of the Hobie doesn't make this easy. I may revisit this idea in the future.
