Nothing special on loup-to-loup routes. Yep, the ghost build shows the minimal radius/diameter for a loup-back track. With a standardized train consists, it's actually easy to do loup-to-point and point-to-point routes. Just kills me that you fill in water with all of that open, unused space and no biters to worry about.

Yep, that's the end point of the game mechanically. Now it's about creating something more efficient. Can you do it smaller? Build a better train network? Make a better bot network(s)? Get all of the achievements. (Yes, it can be completed in 8 hours!) Experimenting with alternative factories layouts. And then there's all the mods....so many mods... But usually the second factory is trying to build more efficiently from scratch.
@wxninjaaАй бұрын

Don't need a splitter to join two lines together like that. just side load into a new line. A> V <B You could use a single-lane balancer even with two input lines. Single Lane and 4x4 lane balancers are the bread and butter of keeping all the lanes full. Mega-base efficiency is all about ratios. For example, a fully loaded yellow belt can hold 13 items per side. (might be higher these days.) If you want a full belt, you need to have sufficient production to fully load up 13 items per second per side. If you check your machines, everything has a input rate and output rate. Then it's just math at that point to figure out the most efficient ratios. I don't use beacons or modules. For me, I can build a moderate sized based with primary main bus line for vanilla Factorio.

You can hover almost anything and hit "R" to rotate it in place. Very useful on underground belts in particular. Don't be afraid to go online and get a good lane balancer blueprint book. Your train loading and unloading would benefit greatly from proper lane balancers instead of 8-deep chests.
@wxninjaaАй бұрын
Funny you mention that because that's exactly what I did. I also changed my train load & unload setup to be more efficient. I got the design from nilaus.

Rail signals create blocks. Only one train at a time is allowed in a block. It's not if the rail is unoccupied; it's whether the next block as a whole is occupied. The colored lines on the track tell you where the blocks are. So if you have a super long section of track, placing signals creates mutiple blocks to keep the trains running. (The red-yellow-green lights tells you the signal's condition.) And yes, it matters if you place them right-hand or left-hand drive for one-way traffic.
@wxninjaaАй бұрын
Thanks, been learning a lot about trains lately. So much to learn in this game, it's insane!

Passive/active providers are good for machine unloading, logi bots will prioritize removing items from a passive before a storage. Active on the other hand will immediately try to get rid of items put in them. If there are no requests in the network for the item, they will take the items to a storage chest. You only need red, yellow, and blue for basic builds. Purple and green are only really useful for more complicated setups (Namely post rocket launch). Also a hot tip for you. Google 4 lane belt banancer. They're easy to build and they are SUPER useful. I can almost guarantee you build the damn things all the time. Six lanes of copper may be overkill, that balancer will solve a lot of your belt imbalance. I love this series, Im used to watching people who do super complicated set ups. It's great to watch someone just enjoy the game!

Lols. First, you need to put robots into the roboport. Second, your personal roboport is responding which is why your personal bots bring deconstruction to you..
@wxninjaaАй бұрын
I thought bots go into the roboports automatically when you place them down.
@MieknaraАй бұрын
@@wxninjaa No. You have to put some robots into the robotport. (Technically, into that logistic network.) Your personal roboport is its own "logistic network". From the game behaviors I've seen, your personal robot port has priority over (and can only do) construction/destruction/repair actions up to the limit of the bots your personal port can control. After that, the local logistic network assigns bots in its logistic network to the task. In short, to test a normal robotport, you have to turn off/disable your personal roboport and put some robots into the normal robotport. Experimentation is part of the fun of Factorio. Extra tip: Fatorio's build in tips/help have a lot of great examples of basic game concepts.

I'll add that yellow logistics chests is where the robots take the items in your trash inventory. Robots will take items from yellow chests to blue chests (or grab thingst to be built), but red chests have the priority for pick-up since red is the primary provider chest. Stage 3 of efficiency redesign is getting into production rates of the machines to find the perfect ratios.
@wxninjaaАй бұрын

@@wxninjaa Part of the fun of Factorio is build it, refine it, tear it down, build it better. It's a very creative process. (It's why I'm not giving direct ratio numbers, etc.) And I actually learned a new way to use a splitter for a particular situation watching your video. Not big game changer per se, but it was a different approach to the problem.

Logistics chests. Red = source/give. Blue = demand. Purple = empty it into the logistics network. Yellow = storage. Purples will try to expunge their contents to yellow. Red is the proper "source" chests. Red to Blue. Purple to Gold. Gold can be taken from but usually less priority than red. The other color is a buffer that reserves for building as I recall. I typically don't use them. We usually advise new players to put down a roboport off on its own. Put down the different chests. Toss in like 10 of each robot. Then play around with the chests to learn how they work.
@wxninjaaАй бұрын
Awesome explanation, I appreciate it!
@MieknaraАй бұрын
The train cars can have 6 inserts on each side. For the layout you have, you only need 6 on the right side with the stack inserters. They'll do the task quite quickly. The engines have 3 fuel slots; having more than 3 stacks of fuel in the chests refueling them is a waste--mainly of the time for the bots to travel such a long distance when they can be doing other logistics tasks. Tip: Spliters have build in filters. Can easily filter out unwanted items without ripping everything up.
@wxninjaaАй бұрын
Good to know, thank you.
@MieknaraАй бұрын
Learing to use both sides of the belt will help you build better production lines. For example, the plastic production is half of what it could be, so most of the machines are actually idle even when the plastic is being used. Don't forget, splitting a belt is a 50-50 split between the two belt lanes. It just looks really full because the demand hasn't ramped up yet.

It seems that you are learning the game by yourself. That's great! Keep going. I just want to remember that you can use the same belt to carry 2 different itens. This will make you use fewer inserters and fewer belts. Try to learn about which side the inserters put an item on the belts and how you can use an existing belt to merge itens on a specific side of another belt. (Maybe bad english, sorry). Have fun!

You're on a good learning path still and asking the right questions. The ALT button will turn on/off the display to show what the factories are making. Very helpful. On the copper wire, you had the right solution to utilize both sides of the belt. But check your factories making the wire. Notice how many of them were not making more wires because they couldn't unload their wires onto that full side of the belt.
