Good review. Recently, I bought this book. It was a locally published edition (in Mumbai, India) and not the one you have. The way I see this story of 'Metamorphosis' is that it is symbolic for all those whose lives changed all of a sudden (maybe due to a misfortune, accident, etc) and they are thrust into a world that is so far away from how "normal" it used to be. In this situation, how the people around treat them and the way their true nature comes out. That's what I took away from this book. It is goes deep into the human condition (both as the protagonist in the book Gregor Samsa and also any of the family members). We will start questioning ourselves after reading this and how we treat others, knowingly or unknowingly. It is not a comfortable reading experience but towards the end, you will be moved by Kafka's work. I think like Albert Camus' work, such books go beyond "good" and "bad" books. They go deep into our minds and really ask thought-provoking questions.
