I can't watch it because of you mangling the mouths of those fish. Why don't you pinch your barbs down.

we did Ponca to Buffalo City the last week of March 2023. all of the willows you see on the gravel bar river left in this video were underwater. there was a huge hydraulic right on the line you paddled...completely rolled over about 5 feet tall. surprisingly, there was an eddy at the river left entrance to the shoal that turned my boat around in a second. it was all i could do to turn back around and straighten the boat out before passing by the hydraulic. my boat had about 5 inches of water in it by the time we got back to calmer water. i have paddled and rafted whitewater, but this thing was truly scary on that day. i caution anyone paddling this section to take this rapid with the highest degree of respect. great video...thanks for sharing.

The river must have been high when you did it. It was very low on this video. I can see it being challenging when the river is up. Glad you made it. Thanks.

Going to kayak the Buffalo in April. What lures and rigs would you recommend for mid April? I’m from Texas and the spawn is different in Arkansas.
@naturallandfishing73282 жыл бұрын
It depends on the water level and water clarity. I had good luck with a weightless fluke recently. If I only had one lure to throw it would be a 3" tube though. Go with 8lb line and natural colors.

So how long does it take to make that run? Is this safe for a cataraft?
@naturallandfishing73283 жыл бұрын
Depends on the water level. We did it in two days. The best level is around four feet at the St. Joe gage. I think the raft would do well on the Buffalo, but you have to be cautious when you get to the White River.
@terrybryant3 жыл бұрын
@@naturallandfishing7328 the pac 1200 by outcast is a white water beast. I have had it on class III and some IV rapids. I was just worried about having to drag it much in low water.
@naturallandfishing73283 жыл бұрын
Ok yeah anywhere between 4 and 5 feet on that gage will be perfect. When the Buffalo meets the White make sure you enter the White on the North side. The current is usually very fast and could push you into some trees on the south side.

I've done this twice...once at age 12 and again at age 30...both times were phenomenal. We always went in the Spring when the water was higher to make the rapids a bit easier. Both time we used a john boat. Thanks for sharing this. We caught lots of small mouth bass and I loved seeing them get up off the water. :) Believe it or not, in 1967 we drank right out of the river, no filtration. But by 1986 that was no longer possible.
