The Beloved of Chemosh were really one of the most interesting creations in late Dragonlance.

Great review! One of the fun parts of re-reading the saga these past few years is finding/ re-discovering gems like this book. Mary Kirchoff co-wrote Flint the King which might be my favorite of the Preludes and some of her short stories have been great such a "Finding the Faith" in Magic of Krynn anthology- that was the one about Laurana at Icewall Castle that really highlighted her courage and skills as a warrior and diplomat. Kendermore was forgettable, but she's mostly very underrated for me

Used to play with a group of friends in high school in the late 80s. I was less experienced and knowledgable than they were but learned a lot. Read the dragonlance and shannara books at this time as well. Now my kids got me getting back into d&d! Was excited to find your channel. Keep up the great work 👍

That's great! I stopped playing for years till my son got me back into it as well. It's a lot of fun to see so many stories like ours, and generations keeping this game and the connection to each other alive!

I've never understood how liches work in Dragonlance setting, or if they even exist. Do you think they mantain their Nuitari-channelled powers, or that the Black Moon forsakes them for Chemosh?
@DLSaga3 күн бұрын
I imagine they need to speak to chemosh for the secret of lichdom, but maintain their loyalty to nuitari.

@@DLSaga Once I thought all liches on Krynn to be high level clerics of Chemosh, that they would forsake their arcane powers to take divine ones, but I Imagine it dors not make much sense.

I'm making a Test of High Sorcery for my player who has a N mage, and I'm planning in using the Beloved as one of the main themes and antagonists. I "love" the way they can only be destroyed and I'm thinking of using this method as a way of planting a moral dilemma to this player: she can either use innocent children as a tool for the "greater good" or she can imprison them for eternity but not destroy them. Knowing her, I'm quite certain what she'll decide (spoiler: she'll be a great addition to the Black Robes).
@DLSaga4 күн бұрын
Haha, That is a great way of using them!

The Beloved were fine as a novel antagonist, but for D&D antagonists, they weren't useable. The requirement that they could only be killed by the innocent ensured it was essentially impossible for an adventuring party to defeat them without recruiting child adventurers or other even more sketchy tactics. So I think it would be best for DM's to just consider them destroyed and use vampires instead.
@DLSaga4 күн бұрын
Ah but that’s the problem with most parties. They only see the problem in front of them. The Beloved were created, defeat their creator or bargain with them, you may find an alternative answer. I really enjoy seemingly impossible odds as it forces you to rethink encounters.
@nonnayerbusiness77044 күн бұрын
@DLSaga Sure, but then what? What about the next time you encounter them? They are immune to magic, magic weapons, and being turned or destroyed by clerics. The only other thing I could think of as a tactic to defeat them is physical restraint and then immurement. I don't think lateral thinking is the solution here because of the invincibility.
@DLSaga4 күн бұрын
@@nonnayerbusiness7704 I wouldn't have them be a random encounter, but rather the center to a campaign of sorts. Once dealt with, they would cease to exist in the campaign.

This story started off great. I loved the kender who could talk to ghosts and Rhys was interesting as a monk. I even enjoyed Zeboim’s bratty nature. Mina annoyed me. It seemed like she was Margaret’s Mary Sue

Thanks for this! I played 1e ADandD in junior high as a DM. I am now 59 and when I read my old PH I found it difficult to understand and some information I expected was in the DMG, although that was also difficult to understand in some places. So in my case I prefer 5e because: (1) lack of time as an adult and (2) declining IQ with age. I enjoyed the video because there is so much I have forgotten about the old days. i’d love to hear more about the time system (segments, rounds etc) because that part was very hard for me to follow (maybe even when I was a kid, I may have simplified for convenience).
@DLSaga4 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! You are not alone. They placed information all over the phb and dmg. I will get back to these videos. I am developing my own setting which is taking the bulk of my time at the moment.

"I don't like how there isn't anything unique or different that the different schools of high sorcery get. It's just basically your alignment and some themeing." As I am looking at the different background feats you are allowed to take based on your robe color in the physical book in front of me.. 🤦
