Good video! Grandad was in that battle he was a para. I’m not 100% on the details but I know he was due to jump into Arnhem but luckily for him he was kept behind with the HQ and travelled by truck down hells highway, I think as far as Nijmegen. The reason he was kept behind was because they needed a typist for the HQ. So being able to use a typewriter probably saved his life! I have always meant to try to follow the route he took, looks like a fun trip on the bike.

Really nicely done videos. It gives a good feel for the scenery, the route AND the personal aspects of cycling, including weather and discouragement. I must admit that I DID think, "Oh no, he's not gonna ride with that huge rucksack!" I'm doing that route this coming September, but I am a 73-year-old and plan on taking a more leisurely 100k a day pace. Judging from your experience from Andermatt to Chur I'm thinking I will skip that dramatic section and start either in Chur or Konstanz. I also have the advantage of not needing to get to any particular destination, except for visiting friends in Mannheim. From there I may just tool around in Germany some more, or follow the Mosel east, then take a train back to Zurich when my 3 weeks are up. Cheers!

Thanks very much for your great comment. Your right about the back pack! I think 100km per day will be much better and allow time to stop longer in places. Good luck 👍🏻

So so happy to see this new video. I completed the full Liberation route in August on my vintage touring bike and camped all the way. Got the ferry from North Shields to Ijmuiden and cycled down to Leopoldsburg to begin my trip. Visited the Liberation museum first. Didn't realize at the time it was the 80th year of operation market garden. Your excellent videos inspired me to make the journey to the Netherlands ( I've probably been about 7 times now!). Thank you. Paul

oh boy the way you set it up its only a matter of time before you flip over. I don't see why anyone would get this over the Heaven Tent
@lauriebloggs8391
@lauriebloggs8391 3 ай бұрын
1/3 the price? Self supporting as a tent which the Haven is not? With some practice it is true, it works very well and is comfortable. The Haven looks good, but not £400 plus good.....oh and you have to rely on that specific airbed with the Haven?
@Roman-nu1om
@Roman-nu1om 3 ай бұрын
@@lauriebloggs8391 The Haven is definitely worth the asking price (450€ in europe for the complete kit). You can use it with the Haven airpad or similar sized pads like the Thermarest Topo Luxe XL. Biwak tent set up is possible by using two hiking poles but I've never tested that. I acknowledge that the Night Cat might be cheaper (obviously their main selling point) but I don't go camping to save money but rather have a good time which usually requires good sleep.

@@Roman-nu1om And I have now, on several occasions, slept very well in my NightCat............Its versatility/adaptability is also one of the reasons it's coming on a planned canoe trip to the west Highlands.

Watched all three videos. Great effort, and what an adventure. It gives me some insight as to what to expect, and I'm really excited. Where abouts did you end up parking ? For me that's a concern. I don't mind a couple mile hike to launch the kayaks, but my main concern is that the car is legally parked and still there when we return
@divum
@divum 4 ай бұрын
We parked at Torran Bay, furthest southern point. We enquired at the hostel (which I believe is not running/open) and there was an elderly woman there who owned the land and boat yard. We explained our plan and she allowed us to camp the first night next the Jetty and park the car with trailer for 4 nights for a small payment. Parking and security are always a consideration.

I agree with the extra tarp setup. I would be interested in trying the tarp the other way so the pointy end was above the door, with the guy line staked with a 4ft pole in front of the doorway. Thanks to both of you.
