We were camping in the mountains one time and fashioned a log burner out of a shallow depression in the ground and some rocks. It worked flawlessly the entire time we were there. We dismantled it before we left so no one else could claim patent rights on it.

Sir, you deserve more likes and comments. This is an excellent video. I loved the explanation in terms of an analogy to a voltage divider! Low pass filters are extremely useful in control circuits. One use for them is that they are half of a lead-lag transfer function (1+STd)/(1+STl) to artificially increase the plant response when the plant is very laggy (systems with inertia and "springy" actuators behave as a low pass filter, inducing a lag in the control). Once can measure the plant response, and then put in a lead; however, this amplifies noise, so a lag at a higher frequency will dampen the noise. Laplace is brilliant! Everything in nature is either a filter or a spring 😁

alternative title: the British once again marking themselves in history by beginning the first experiment of the Ion Drive
@rogeriopenna9014 Жыл бұрын
what do you mean with "first experiment of the Ion Drive"??? they were already used in missions like the DART mission en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_Asteroid_Redirection_Test#Ion_thruster Ion Thrusters were invented, in paper, in 1900!!! And the first tested Ion Thruster in Space flew in 1964, BEFORE the Moon missions "Finally, however, in 1964, NASA’s Space Electric Rocket Test I (SERT I) tested this technology in space for the first time, operating its ion thruster for just over half an hour."

It doesn't work, in the way you think it does it has no torque meaning in dumb, it means it will never make enough thrust to fly/move anything useful
@Vapewoo Жыл бұрын
Not true. Deep space rockets can and have used them and also a model plane was created with ionic thrusters. Especially with rockets, this tech is very useful
@woodowoods9167 Жыл бұрын
thanks tonyw8001 and vapewoo. The vehicle works because the ionized particles emitted from the cathode bump into the uncharged air molecules on their way to the anode and create a wind. The set up would not work in a vacuum as there is no gas to ionise or push. The amount of force is agreed small but MIT have a 4m glider powered by this. Where the technology comes into its own is ironically in space where there are no particles to speak of. Space vehicles therefore need to carry their own gas to ionise such as xenon or other heavy inert gas. Proven space vehicles such as the Dawn which was launched in 2007 had 3 xenon derived ion thrusters delivering 0.09N solely from a solar array. In the vacuum of space the tiny associated acceleration moves the vehicle to incredible speeds over time. The future of Inter planetary and interstellar space seems likely to employ such technology. Doubt the thing I built here is going to change the world though :)
