I just got the game maybe 2 1/2 weeks ago and I think the smartest thing is just to make a small raft. Then you can put a drying food rack on there, a water collector, a bed, stick collectors, bone collectors, arrow holders, etc. I personally have all those things plus a big shelf, a fire, skull lights, and a stick marker (which I probably don’t need because the bed has a bed symbol is basically a stick marker. I basically have everything I need and can sleep anytime that I need to and my defense is water. Which is probably the smartest thing to do in my opinion but I do feel that it somewhat cheats the game. Something like the oppressor MK2 in gta5

me and my friend made a base on the beach, for some reason on day 25 there were just waves of mutants and virginias coming at squads. It was hell. Do not make a base on the beach if you play on hardcore

The beach also has lots of Aloe right there in the woods and the big tree on the cliff has marigolds all over. Together they make the best healing plant in the game you can eat

I ALWAYS build at the beach and when my friend was starting the game and we built there we had SO MANY bosses but make sure if you build there to block off the cliffs cuz the bosses can jump in and stuff

i built a base just above the waterfall on geese lake and barely had any cannibals, let alone patrols. its a great safe location
