🫣 I mean I can't say I'm surprised. But I never thought I would see that face again. I used to live in the North Austin cedar Park area and Jose Santa Maria was my instructor. I went to state competition for taekwondo when I was 11 and placed 11th in my division. (Chuck Norris was there that year and it was really cool) Unfortunately I had a career-ending injury the following year(outside of training or competition). At that point the hardest thing I ever did was tell him that I had to quit. I'm sorry to hear that he is gone. But I hope the family is a little comforted to know that he meant a lot to a lot of us students. He helped me believe in myself when no one else seemed to. Thanks for everything Jose. RIP

I earned my 1st Degree Black Belt from Mr Wren in ‘72 (St Louis). Great instructor and competitor! Loved the “Blood & Guts” era. Mr. Wren was amazing - intimidating, no doubt….and he could back it up with his fighting abilities.

I remember Mr. Mitchell from Byong Yu Karate school in Hayward, or maybe Berkeley. He was a very good martial artist. He was an extremely nice person. I'm speaking in the past because this was back in the 1970s. A long time ago and we were both young. I'm glad to see this recognition. He is so deserving of.
