mantis B is the best ship in the game, even if you prefer gun ships it deserves a tier, you should get your sanity checked if you think thats not s tier. As someone who has used it a lot, i can win almost all runs on hard with it

Stealth b>a because you can get a 3 power cloak early and avoid everything apart from drones. Lanius b is B-A tier, but cant get cloaking. the power of starting with a really strong gun helps.

scrap recovery is not good enough for s because you buy it early and it doesnt benefit you that much then but a lot in the latter stages, it is good to find tho

Slug b tier. Defense drones are the only solid s tier, fire drones are too situational, they completely destroy ships if you have strong guns or ions to get rid of the shields, but if you dont they are not much for the power you have spend. Low A tier for me. Hull repair is the closest to a second s tier but is expensive and only really a late-game buy. If you get one off something for free you do really reap the rewards

I think your build could have been okay, but you just panicked a bit and weren't timing your shots particularly well, especially with your Spear Psyker guy. He was consistently ready to cast spells that can't miss. Throw those into engines and then rip their shields down with your guns once their dodge is gone. Of course watching is always different than playing but it was a bit annoying hearing about all the misses when you weren't effectively using the guy who cant miss. I will say though the heat beam fires did not seem to be helping all that much. The repairs are quite quick. I also commented before I saw the fireball casters. That one looked pretty unwinnable, not on you.

I was pleasantly surprised to see how high you put Reverse Ion Field. I've found it useful, but I've seen people say that it's useless. Also, Long-Range Scanners. I often get those, but I never knew if I was right in doing so.

What's with all the mini beam love? You get 2-3 damage every ten seconds with the condition of the enemy's shield being down. Add the fact that you can't stack that damage on one system and it has no bonus effects, and it's a fairly niche weapon that can't take you very far.

40% evasion * 4 shields = 1.6 shield layers ... ackshually like 5 given how fast they were recharging, thus 2 shield layers effectively... At this point you'd target the "always hit" spells onto piloting so that your projectiles can actually it the shields. Void War artillery beam has more potential damage than FTL, but seems way too dependent on shield suppression, imho. EDIT: "How are their shields coming back on so fast?" -Sees Shield Charger in store "Massively Boosts Shield Charge Rates" -Proceeds to Ignore Edit2 : Oh man sending the 25 hp mage to have a fistfight with the 55hp combat servitor. I don't think your build is awful, but there's a bit of lack of synergy (and you could have pushed boarding earlier, assault sled was available in sector 1/2 - you chose weapons/defenses, but Void War really seems to punish not having boarding) in the build and you honestly weren't using the psychic abilities enough, during the Imperial Destroyer fight in the first half of this video spell uptime was up half the fight while your shots were missing or just getting outregened. There's definitely some balance issues imho, not a huge fan of boarding being forced so much but I suppose that's suitable for a 40k expy...

The Mantis B has one huge issue that prevents me from loving it... if you run into a drone (which happens often) early on you are screwed. You pretty much have to abandon the fight, which means you have to give up on potential resources.
