Ty. This was nice....it almost brought me back to my child hood. Have not heard a good storm like this in nearly 30 years. The rain is different. We'd tend the pow wows. At night if we were lucky a good storm would roll in. The sound of the rain on oil cloth or hide teepees has a different sound to it. A fire would crackle and pop not a roaring bon fire just a low fire. In the distance women would be singing the various traditional lullabies to their kids. An elder or group of elders who couldn't sleep be playing on their flutes. Usually grandfather flutes. The mellow yet sad haunting melodies full of memory would carry just over the thunder. The thunder drowning out some of the lullabies but not all and never drowning out the elders flute/s. The rain and the crackling fire were almost like drums as if the storm was there as nature's way of playing with the elders. If only I could get that sound and the smell of fresh earth, ozone, hides, oil cloth and smoke.... I could probably find that level of truly blissful sleep once more.
