I had the pleasure of hearing and participating in a service today that this Man of God Mel Tari was preaching at and God showed up in many beautiful ways. When I spoke with him he was just an everyday type of person that you can feel comfortable with. Mel Tari, the "Evangelist" from Indonesia came to do special meetings featuring "signs & wonders" with YWAM. The flyers advertised Mr. Tari (not to be confused with Jesus) as "walking on water", "healing people" and even "raising the dead" back on the island of Timor in Indonesia. There was a young boy whose arm was deformed who showed up at several of our open airs in Papeete and asked if he could be healed. He was told to come to Mr. Tari's service. There were also people in wheelchairs & using crutches at the service. When the invitation came, the sick & lame went forward for prayer & healing. They ALL went home the same way they came. I felt sick, that we had scammed these beautiful people. And what about the boy who wanted healing? Would he now blame himself for lack of faith for not being healed? Even after that, there were charismatcs in the group who said how wonderful the service was! How blind & gullible can people be? He is a scam!

It is truly this kind of stubborn clinging to supernatural mythologies and taking them as an indication of a divine origin that holds mankind back from achieving its potential. It's a kind of laziness to pass the buck of reality over to the supernatural to absolve oneself of having to admit their frailties and limitations, and when you do that, you stop trying, progress stops, thinking stops. Did these people walk on water? No, of course not. Either they found a sandbar that those on the far side did not, the water was simply not that deep, or it is a well-meaning fabrication, which is what I suspect. Those who are so sure of themselves but cannot find enough solid proof to be convincing will often resort to fables to make a point, or conveniently mis- or re-interpret events to support their own beliefs. It is a physical universe we live in, you have but to look around, employ your own thinking, exam your world, to know it... until more are willing to do just that, we are hobbled.
