I’m really no expert but with the stone being so high would there have been a possibility of slicing abit above the dark potch and going for a crystal and a dark stone ? I dunno anyway just found your channel looking forward to seeing all your vids m8 👍👍👍

I missed the finished weight of the opal. You said that it would be about 16.5 cts. At finish size. Did you list the weight and value, if not please do

I swear, you cut some of the BEST Opal ever ! I really wish you had more videos sir. Absolutely talented.

I am watching a lot of the Opal cutting videos that I watched last year for a second and in some cases a 3rd time, and am beginning to understand a bit more about the HOW and WHY the gems are being cut, not only to maximize the value but also the beauty and color etc. One video in particular on The Opal Mills channel really highlighted the issue. Phil had a stone that had been appraised for something like (and I don’t remember exactly the numbers) maybe around $2000 but was worth considerably more - IF it had been cut correctly. Phil recut the Opal, placing the setting line correctly for the jeweler, evening and centering the dome, which placed the color squarely in the center and ultimately WAS more pleasing to the eye. The first time I watched this video I was more taken with the color of this gem, it really is a rare gem indeed, but what you did with it, recutting it, centering the color and repairing the shape of the gem…. It is testimony to your professionalism and the care with which you handle your trade. I really do appreciate your content, and the fact that you shared this with us. You, and Phil, and Justin really don’t have to do this. You guys could just make videos highlighting the gems and not really share with us the hows and whys etc. The information and time you guys share really is priceless to someone who wants to. So thank you sir. And I wish the very best for you.

You have some amazing opals...this one is crazy gorgeous! While watching you work I can see many ways you could use more water for each wheel and a few other things that would make your work smarter and easier. I've never seen anyone put opal in the freezer, but whatever works for you. And I so get it that if the individual opal is totally stable after all the heat/cold and rubbing that you do with them. I would trust a stone cut by you! That is sayin a lot. I have a certain opal cutter that I've watched for years, more in my age bracket than yours that I have huge respect for. You are next in that line...skipping generations and we have You! I do pray you are very successful. I will share your videos to my fb pages...the only social media I use regularly. I'm disabled and a retired nurse. This sure brightens my day! Thank you!

Absolutely exquisite! You did it justice as such a young man too. You earned a sub from me. And I am very particular on what oval cutters I watch. It would made a lovely broach or pendant. You don't need to be a robot, just takes time and experience. Never stop learning and cutting!

You have some incredible insight into what can make a gem from an great gem to one that is a one of a kind. The end result truly spoke to both your talent as a cutter and individual. I feel privileged to have watched this video and your process.

I didn't catch the backstory but I assume that the original cutter did not want to lose carat weight. You clearly demonstrated how important a good cut is ... even if it weighs less. Great job! dp

Mate I've watched all your videos. You are a fantastic opal craftsman and your opals are stunning. Really like the way you give an in depth tutorial. I love gem prospecting when I get spare time and also love going out to lightning ridge. Did you find these opals yourself? If so how awesome.
