First time watching Japanese calligraphy. So delicate and complicated 😊

Daft music! Might be better to show the Sutra first and so we can see all the places MU appears. But thanks for this!

Don't feel embarrassed about what 厨 means in Japanese. I've been reading plenty of Japanese novels, and they still used the word 厨房. I should note that it's not so much a home kitchen, but like a restaurant kitchen.

Interesting development. I was quite skeptical of the string back in the day because I had checked so many resources and you were literally the only one who taught others to do that. In my experience, my good brushes still write well, and my cheap brushes from Daiso, not so much. All of them don't have string. I should really try with new ones when I get a chance to go to Daiso.

Are there any native Japanese equivalents? I’m searching for a dictionary that has native Japanese definitions instead of English translation, which is not definition, actually.

I’m not looking into learning how to do Japanese calligraphy (yet) but this was extremely useful for my embroidery project in showing how the brushstrokes used and the direction as well as how those movements play into the final look of the lines on paper. The first kanji especially was useful due to the second internal character having a sharp turn without removing the brush from the paper, which was one of the things I was specifically looking for to reference (the other was to see how direction/speed affected the initial area where the brush first touched the paper) I tend to find it easier to imitate art through learning how it’s actually done, despite me using a completely different medium, and this was a very good visual tutorial for that (and now if I ever get into Japanese calligraphy I know where to start lol)

My name is Icem (pronounced as ai-sem) but my Professor in Nihongo told me that my Japanese name is 'Isemu' and I am using that name for our subject. But after watching this video, I realize that my Japanese name should be 'Aisemu' instead of 'Isemu'. Am I right or I am cooked?

Thank you, very helpful! I learned to put the practice paper beneath the table and reuse it for practicing sumi-e bamboo stems or leaves. But now I will have a paper bag also for the fire place :)

For extra practice, I wanted to try my name in Katakana. I put my name in Google Translate, and it gave me ブレント (Burento). A your name in Katakana website gave me ブレンテ (Burente). The first 3 characters are easy to choose, but I can't decide if I should go with ト or テ.

No me había percatado de todo lo que implica la caligrafía. No es solo hacer los trazos, es preparar, hacer y terminar, volver a ordenar. SAMU. Pero también considero importante es que quienes te acompañen o vivan contigo, amigos o familiares, entiendan y respeten tu práctica. Es un aspecto difícil por qué no todos entienden que es un aspecto importante de tu vida. Tener en cuenta y organizar el contexto, armonizar con el caos (乱合) Ran Ai. Gracias maestro Estaban 🙏🙏🙏
