Bravo to Paxman for making/designing another fine instrument ! I remember working with Bob and Dick on the American Triple, and bringing the first one back to the US in 1976.

Beautiful, I love the Paxmans, not playing one at moment, but only because I wanted a shiny horn and I could not afford a new Paxman. One day I will. I hope. Interesting no mention of slotting as I find slotting more important on a horn. Amazing in England, UK we do not talk about Geyer at all, seems an American concern which bugs them.

Hello, I bought a paxman 20 M a few months ago, but I can't figure it out with the tuning and I find it very closed. Could you tell me if something similar has happened to you or what could be due to it. Thank you very much. Congratulations on your interpretation!

If you find it closed, you could try a larger bore mouthpiece

I prefer the sound he makes on the Paxman, compared to the Lewis. Really nice!

I have two paxmax descant horns (M40 and M45). I bought the M45 by visiting a store in London. This video is a very nostalgic video. With these instruments, I could quite easily play Weber's Concertino, Richard's No. 2, and Schumann's Hi-A. Although it is a descant horn, it has the same sound quality as a double horn. Therefore, I think it is the best musical instrument in the world, surpassing Alex103.

This lacks one downside of the two common 5-valve single Bb configurations (F-extension + St, or C-valve + St), because in both those cases the descending stop-valve and tubing are extra weight (easy to clean, since they see so little use). On this design, that tubing doesn't exist. The weight is between the weights of the two popular 5-valve designs. Since 1-3-St gives the E-horn harmonics on the Bb horn, 1-3-4-5 should work similarly for this design (think "low F# and pedal Bb"). The ascending C-valve horn helps with high Ab, A, Db and D. The ascending Eb-valve on this design helps with high Bb, C and D (and double high F, if that's your thing). On paper, this looks great. Definitely worth trying.

Wow - such a quick response to the article! Great. A number of questions arise, like, is a production run likely?

Thanks Derek. This one was a one-off build to see how the instrument would work and anyone who can come to Paxman in London can try it out. We can of course build more if required, of this or of other single horn variations. In an ideal world we would take it to exhibitions so that everyone could play it and see for themselves and as soon as restrictions are eased, we will do this. In the meantime, I hope that people enjoy this contribution to the development of our great instrument!

How to get a model 20 Paxman? First of all sorry for my terrible English, I'm French... So my teacher tell me to take a model 20 of Paxman professional horn. Where is the place to buy it?
You need to talk about Dick's original model with double linked rotors to get the air running in the same direction. I've only seen two of those and that was about 45 years ago. Bob, Dick And I talked into the night after closing time, at the Nag's Head, about His ideas and design solutions. Wonderful memories...

Thank you both for this marvellous performance of a gem from the repertoire. I believe it was composed in 1888 as a silver wedding present for his parents, and published by Boosey and Hawkes in1972. The theme from Verdi’s ‘Force of Destiny’ was perhaps a favourite of Franz Strauss?

Always glad to see you guys and the new website looks great! Wondering if there are any plans for a Centenary-like version of some of the larger sizes like a 20L.
@paxmanltd45883 жыл бұрын
Hi Allen, Sorry to take a while to respond, a bit new to this KZbin stuff! There are no plans for a Centenary Double with Large bell, but we will probably make the Hand Hammered bell available as an option at some point. Obviously this is already done for the M bell, we will have to see what we can do for the other sizes. We will be sure to anounce it on the website and other sites if and when this happens.
