i helped install 3 vulcan 7.62mm gatling guns in a c-47 at Pleiku in Vietnam 1965. the one i worked on was called Puff The Magic Dragon and it had the picture of a dragon on the nose. Pleiku was known as Dragon Base and the reason was the 52nd Combat Aviation Bn headquarters was there. visit dark docs site they have a video of one of the first planes.

My grandfather served on the Randolph during WWII. When I was a kid, he told me this story about repairing the flight deck. He passed away in 2016.

When I was a kid in the late 1940s and through the 1950s in Alaska, the DC-3 was a popular airliner although I'm not sure that term had been created yet. My parents had both been in the Army Air Corps in WWII (well Mom was in the Women's Army Air Corp really) and that C-47 was a serious work horse in that era. Jump forward a few years and I was in Vietnam in the Navy. I happened to pick up a newspaper or some thing and saw a comment that mentioned something about an AC-47... Just what were you supposed to attack with an old Gooney Bird??? I did a little more digging and found something about the AC-47 Gunships and I was flabbergasted... really I was!! After some amount of cold beer and serious contemplation, the idea of a slow gun-platform with three miniguns hanging out the window didn't sound quite so silly after all. Flying them at night, rotating around a target, and lacing the barrage with copious tracers just scared the hell out whom ever might be on the ground looking up at them!!! Knowing the DC-3 as I did still made it sound kinda strange, but it was a good kind of strange!

The P-39 "Miss Connie" was named after the wife of Col. Virgal "Sandy" Sansing (USAF retired). Sandy was a WWII fighter pilot. He flew the P-47 and P-51 Mustang in combat. He was the chief checkout pilot in the Central Texas Wing.

Wonderful Story. I own 4-451, 1939 Cub Coupe. It’s been in the family since 1947. I soloed in it in 1969. And, it’s airworthy.

I learned to fly at a Navy flying club that had a T-34B. Although the "A" and "B" models have some differences, I am sure that your A model is a joy to fly as was the B. Keep this airplane flying!

Wait how did the f35s not stall? I thought they performed poorly at subsonic speeds… unless they used the vector nozzles
@CAFMediaTV
@CAFMediaTV 14 күн бұрын
The F-35C doesn't have vector nozzles, but they don't need them. The Corsair is more than capable of cruising at a speed well above the F-35's stall speed. Normal cruise for a Corsair is over 200 and its top speed is over 400.

@ ah. I wonder if it’s possible to use the vtol mode as a sort of vectoring for high-g maneuvers. I’m also not really familiar with a lot of modern combat systems, so this information is actually pretty useful! Thx!

@ Rex Beisel was the designer of the aircraft. The Corsair had a kill ratio of 11:1, shot down 2,140 enemy aircraft and only lost 189 in air-to-air combat, yes including “Pappy Boyington’s Corsair #915. That is at the bottom of St. George Channel. Three Corsair aces were awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. And one more in Korea War. My favorite versions are F4U-1A, -1C, and -1D. It was also powered by at that time an experimental Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engine. The correct engine is Pratt and Whitney R-2800-W8 engine. The -W8 stands for water-injection. I also like the inverted gull- wings and big propeller. That sums it up for now.
