I would like to disagree with you that a work instruction is not a process. In fact it is a process, if you agree with me that a process is a logical grouping of tasks to produce an output. A work instruction is just a method to model/illustrate a process.

Thanks for your comment. We follow conventions as set by ISO and BPMN. Michael Hammer, the founder of BPR, said it well "If it doesn't make at least three people angry, then it's not a process." - hinting that processes are higher level flows spanning multiple roles. When that is said, we agree that definitions as to what is a process, a procedure, a workflow and a work instruction are not so sharp leaving room for interpretation. 😊

That's all well and good, but how do you visually represent a collaborative activity such as a document or design review including other representatives from e.g Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality and Shopping?

You're right - that is not covered in this simple approach. You may add more swimlanes to show these, or simply events about informing them.

@@gluuTube ....plus, I never really liked the idea of a whole swim lanes, especially when young have a whole swimlane dedicated to one activity. It gets annoying on diagrams.when you don't have much space

Hi! good question. It's a combination of how it is required to be done by the ISO standard and maps to the lowest level of BPMN 2.0. Other than that it is about using the fewest notations possible so everyone will be able to understand how you work.
