Thanks for your honest sharing, I recently started my own KZbin channel, I was feeling a bit discouraged seeing the low views and subscribers, but your words reminded me actually how i love to make good music and visual. The joy of people appreciating your content. Sometimes maybe we should focus on our passion and not over the numbers and money

I started my channel about 11 years ago. I had no idea that I could make money with it. I just wanted to have fun. After these 11 years I have about 10,000 subscribers. I have never made a lot of money. These days I make about 125.00 per month. I get excited when I see that deposit into my checking account. I have made some very close crafty friends, my channel is about crafting and arts. I LOVE doing my crafting and sharing with others. I do not edit, I just post raw video. I still have so much fun. I do not try to be great at anything, I just have fun. I am just me. I have learned so much from the comments made by my friend subscribers. I love my channel so much. I love making new friends. I do not do it for the money. Blessings to you.. Oh and by the way. I am 75.

Honestly I think you should think about making courses and writing books on gardening topics. Have you thought about selling seeds or small plants on Etsy?

I really appreciate you sharing this. The key words are, 'doing something you enjoy." I'm a beginner youtuber, but I'm sure glad I chose to make it about wood turning instead of tinting cars for a living. I think this helps me respond better to viewer comments, both good and bad. It's a lot less stressful knowing that my livelihood doesn't really depend on this. I'm not trying to replace my business, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings either. "Thy hand provideth!" Thank you for sharing with us!

i think the challenge with trying to make videos and get views is the algorithm is such an unknown quantity. If youtube could include in the analytics some information about how when and why your video is being shared it would be a big help.

Where do you live, what region or zone? I thought squash could only grow in summer into fall? I'm in Pacific NW and we got freezing temperatures.

Central Florida. It normally grows in the Spring and Fall. We are having a mild winter so the squash is still living (and it had a late start).

YES! An honest assessment of your own KZbin experience - very refreshing! - I despise investing time in watching a video of someone offering advice on how to grow (or even start)a KZbin channel only to get a sales pitch to buy their book, courses etc. I am a fellow organic gardener and look forward to learning from you (about gardening and KZbin) as I get ready to embark on my own KZbin journey. Cheers to you!

Really great video! I’d watch this a while back when it came out, and changed the way I looked at my green onions and how I planted them in the garden so they would be more productive! Thank you for this great video! Also, as a sidenote, I try not to comment on other gardening KZbinrs videos. I feel like it’s a bit of a distraction. But I felt it was appropriate now since we’ve already spoken, and I wanted to let you know how great the videos are!

I don't know if this works with regular green onions. These were given to me specifically as "bunching onions". Some viewers say they are walking onions. I'm not sure if they are but at least they would be very similar.

@ I agree with you I don’t think it would work with regular green onions at least not very easily. It would probably take much longer. I have both Egyptian walking onions and punching onions and I really wasn’t sure how to move the punching onions around and to utilize it. Now that I have a good understanding from your video on what you’ve done and how it worked, I can plan much better!

Silicon Valley Snake Oil, all these sites, like KZbin and Wordpress that claim to pay people for content are really just taking advantage of content producers. This has been my experience also, it's not possible to make an income from these types of endeavors unless one is lucky enough to have a big hit, even then these corporations make far more off us than we do.

I am 67, a newly retired nurse in England( though I say I’m on a gap year haha) . I started my KZbin channel 8 months ago, and it’s very tiny. But I started it, yes , daring to hope to earn money, but primarily , as a legacy my grandaughter . So why do I get soooo despondent when I get hardly any views, and elated when I get a thumbs up or lots of views ? … because I’m secretly hopeful it will take off and that may validate what I’m doing to others. Ridiculous!!!!. What I do, I have always loved doing, but never had much time for it when I was at work, because my role involved constantly updating . I’m a nurse practitioner ( yes still registered) , and I so miss the actual caring aspect that seems devoid in health practice now . Anyway I digress . I just subscribed to your channel. Because I do like my garden and I’m thinking I might like to learn about organic gardening from a fellow retiree . So onward and upward we go x

Thank you! I checked out your video about making a dress shorter with a crocheted accent on the bottom. Very clever! I hope you do well. I'm no expert by any means but I did fast forward a bit through the first part so that shows me that editing can be a help. When I edit, I tell myself to be ruthless. I try to not share more than what is absolutely necessary. It took me many videos to learn that and I'm still learning to "stay on topic". Check other crochet videos like MJs off the Hook and see how she will edit her work yet still remain informative. I LOVED your updated dress.

I know a YT guy that will not edit at all. He said that's the time suck. Just make them and move on. I started a channel 8 years ago. I quickly realized kinda what you did, if I didn't get a "hit" vid. , it was just going to a slug.

@beerdrinker6452 Yes but it wouldn’t have had any impact . Think about it.. if some stranger comes up to you on the street and says facts in your face for 15 seconds, you might think why? Who is that? You would want validation of who they are before you decide if you will listen. This lady is explaining , validating herself to strangers. You tube guru advice seems to be, to assume everyone is a stranger who never saw a video of yours before. Thats what she’s doing. I get your point, because if you pause and chatter you often lose the viewer, but I watched as a stranger, because something she said resonated with me. It might not in 15 seconds.

Great information and channel! My channel is very small and really set it up for family as well as making a few good friends. Haven’t given much thought to monetizing and just enjoying retirement. I do enjoy watching videos though. I’ve been thinking of doing some gardening so I picked up your channel because you are very good at what you do. Enjoy yourself because life is far too short.

Only a small percentage make big money. The rest work really hard but don't get remunerated well. It's not a career for most. I see a few young guys doing it full time and doing quite well. I just hope they don't see it as a long term thing. There are things to consider such as buying a house and putting money away for their retirement. Some need to consider what they will do once their KZbin stint is over.
