I worked in an artroom at a monument place for few years. My job was cutting the design on a plotter or by hand if was intricate. And placing it on the stone. Then picking out all the parts to blast. Was not a bad job as it was a lot of working with your hands but not hard work. Takes a real eye for detail and being super picky. Because sometimes you only get one shot at it. Many times I would get 75 or 100% done and find one detail off and redo whole thing or part of it. I could sit and smoke in the shop for hours while doing large pieces as it was that casual in the 90s.

When my Dad died ,we went out to see the headstone a few days after it was done...My grandmother's name was already on the stone..we noticed one of the dwarf fir trees we had put at each side of the stone was dying so I looked under the limbs..whoever did the engraving of my Dad's name had done it on the spot and shoved the stone dust under the bush..we had to remove the bush..never even thought to look into it as we didn't know how it was supposed to be done to an already standing headstone.

That was fascinating! Thanks for showing us how it's done! I've lost several loved ones over the last 10 years, so I visit the cemetery often. How do they add a "date of death" to an existing headstone that is already in the cemetery? I've been told that they engrave it on site. After seeing the video, I can't imagine how it's done. ???
