Greetings, your project has many good features, IMHO, and appears to be the mechanical system I would use if DIYing a lift for my attic. i have been thinking about such a system for my garage attic and after seeing several such KZbin videos I considered a possible solution for my build. I have a fairly wide staircase up to my attic which would be ideal for placement of a lift. I would tear out a portion of the staircase for the lift and in its place build a steel "cage" from a suitable sized pallet rack using only the top tier rack for the hoist as would be copied from your example. For stability I would attach the pallet rack supports to the floor joists of the attic. And since the pallet supports have multiple attachment points for the racks, I presume one could engineer a safety latch that would prevent the lift from falling if the hoist or cables should fail. Presently my attic is not engineered to carry but a few hundred pounds per square foot, so that limits what I could lift up to that space. But if one's attic is engineered to carry much more weight, a system built from a steel pallet rack could easily handle 500 pounds or more. Fortunately, pallet racks in the used market are fairly inexpensive, and it would cost me more to build one from scratch. Thanks for sharing your video.

I hope you're still monitoring this. My question is how you secured the drums to the 1" bar. Did you use woodruff keys to help keep them from possibly slipping on the shaft, or just clamped down the drums tightly with the bolts on the drums? Thank you, great job...

@drdegutrez8458 Жыл бұрын
I thought of this idea just now. If you had a wider and longer garage you could've built an attic lift bigger and strong enough to lift a full size car or truck into the attic, that is, if the space up there is large enough to fit it. You will need to reinforce the ceiling with steel and concrete so that it won't collapse if you choose to store/park vehicles, or other heavy equipment on the attic floor directly.

Same thing with my truck. Replaced them with a upgraded isolator and it lasted for about 9 months.
@joegillum Жыл бұрын
When you cut the hole through the attic floor, is that structurally ok? You just cut off the floor boards and they are left hanging, or does the double-boarded square you built around the hole act as a beam to transfer the load across the floor?
@Engine3FF Жыл бұрын
Yes the joists that were cut were then hung and loads transferred to two ply laminated beams that were on load bearing walls/beam.

Great video- I had the same issue, only with a moderate load in the bed. Left for a 3 week camping trip pulling our 28’ travel trailer…. I suspected that the shims had worn down, so I sprayed silicon between the leafs, and the problem would go away -for a while. I got some high quality thick zip ties, and placed a few between the leafs. Just temporary, until new shims can be ordered. It’s been about a year now, and the zip ties are still in place. It’s an experiment now, how long will they survive!

Why do you have to grind down a brand new OEM ford part?
@Engine3FF2 жыл бұрын
It’s just a shortcut to keep from having to disassemble the leaf spring assembly. It won’t fit in the separation provided by just lifting the truck with a jack.

How the hell did you cut your rafters without supporting the ends, and still pass building inspection? Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.
@Engine3FF2 жыл бұрын
I don't understand, rafters are for roofs. No part of the roof structure was involved in this. It's hard to see but watch closely at 00:22-00:23. I installed double laminated beams spanning between the two load bearing points. Then I installed double laminated beams 00:44-00:50 between the first set of installed beams. All weight from what was carried by the removed i-joists was transferred to the newly installed laminated beams.

I had my leaf packs replaced twice under warranty for this... Three days each time. Dealer wouldn't replace just the pads lol... They had to take the tank out to get the front left side bolt out of the spring. It told them just to cut the bolt and put a new one in backwards as to not have to drop the tank (way easier and cheaper)... They "don't so shady tree stuff"... Complete pine cones! I just grease them every oil change.
@wiggenvan5 ай бұрын
Idk if greasing them is a good idea. I would think that would just cause dirt to attract and create a polishing compound over time. It’s not sealed, grease needs to stay clean to be effective.
