I have this exact set up… I was using just fine and all of a sudden I stopped getting a strong blue flame. Just a floppy orange flame. Thought it was time for a new tank, but continued with a a floppy flame, I was told maybe my handle was bad and replaced it. Still doing the same… could a bad tip cause this? Thanks.

You mentioned if you crash a tool etc. That you recommend re-tramming the vice. I would also suggest checking the alignment of the turret/quill.

No No No No No, totally wrong from start to finish. Plus, unless you wanted a chamfer you deburring/filing is also incorrect. I suggest you cease trying to teach beginners on a subject when you do not understand the basics yourself.

How many times can you hone the vise bottom before you need to be concerned about the it going out of Kurt's table-to-vise bed spec? Also, do you need to tighten your mounting hardware to a specific torque?
@linzenmeyer

This is a great question
@HighGear7445
@HighGear7445 Жыл бұрын
No specific torque just very tight with a wrench. Most everyone just does a hand tight and then a light tap on the wrench with a #2 lead hammer. No cheater bars or anything as it's possible to warp your table over time. You can hone for years before regrinding the vice. I used to refurbish the Kurts on the rare occasion that they needed it and that would be after tons of use..generally years of use. I would surface grind the bottom and inside working surface as well as kiss the unmovable jaw seatback to square. Really didn't take hardly much to tweek them back as the surfaces are flame hardened. The Bridgeport table is what you need to be carefull of as it's cast iron so just use the fine side of a stone and just enough stoning to do the job.
@danielrobey1759
@danielrobey1759 Жыл бұрын
Something to keep in mind is that you aren’t going wild with the stone, in fact after a light swipe or two if you don’t feel any drag on the stone there’s no reason to continue stoning the table or vise.

This guy is a clown. Not only is the part not anywhere near square. You've got the quill hanging out of the mill 6 inches down. Not to mention you didn't choke up on the endmill in the collet either so 100% you're going to get some tool deflection... NEXT!

Re. Centering the vice on the table. My boss had a long table Bridgeport and he kept a vice on one end and a rotary table on the other end so that they balanced. This had a number of advantages. You seldom had to realign the vice. You had less time spent changing from a rotary table application and a straight clamping application. The wear on the screw and nut was more evenly distributed.

This eventually puts a "bow" in the table....depending on size and weight of the vices and rotarys used

Totally wrong way to square a part! You should've had the part a least half it's thickness above the vice jaws and ran the end mill around it traveling front & right and then traveling back & left clockwise (conventional milling). Then do the opposite traveling back & right and then traveling front & left clockwise (climb milling) to the finished dimensions After that deck the top surface, unclamp, flip it clockwise 180 degrees, re-clamp, rinse & repeat. Never take advice from someone wearing a clown hat...

If you are teaching this as a lesson for students…….the procedure is flawed. You are trusting that two or more of the block faces are tue when you start. What is your reference surface??? Stavros

Once you stood the part on edge in the vise, what gaurantee was there that the bottom you are referencing from is square to the sides? Good way to create a parallelogram.

Yup, they cut two sets of parallel sides. You got to make one set of parallel sides, then use those parallel sides to hold it in the vice to make a profile cut. This will give you a perpendicular face, and then you can square up the last side with either an end cut or profile cut. Sad to see such a prestigious university make a rookie mistake... If you repeat his steps backwards, then you would have a squared part.

@@moore1182agreed 💯. The way I was taught. 1)clamp on the thickness n face both sides of the width. 2)clamp on the width you just cut Face the top n side mill both sides of the length 3)flip it over n tap down than face the top
