I have had exactly the same with my ProSisTel. Potentiometer three times over several years. Life duration of potentiometer seems very bad and I think it is probably caused by slight eccentricity between the centre of the moving rotator part and the mounting of the potentiometer which is located ALMOST in the centre, but not 100% perfectly, so when rotating it must put a side-load on the potentiometer and probably reduces life. I think the ProSisTel rotor is a very solidly made product but with weakness in the design relating to potentiomer mounting. I think the potentiometer needs to be mounted on a soft rubber mount to reduce any side loading.

Hi, the antenna was on 15 m towers but explosed by wind . Now i have an ultrabeam UB-50 on new 18m towers. But it was a real good one .

I think the genius of this antenna is that the components it's made of are highly flexible to begin with. Flex instead of break. This doesn't look like an issue at all. I'd be more concerned with stress on the rotator.

I have to repair my TS-850 Today. I look for help on internet, but i didnt find a Good answer. People say that is the hybrid module(1100-00) that generates -6Volts, but i think…... , resistors and Transistors usually doesnt loose properties with the time , then i get focused on electrolitic capacitors. I change them all (C624-625-626-628) by 10uf(yes less tan originals) "solid" capacitors from an broken TV board, and then TS-850 is Alive again. Also i find that in schematics C626 and C628 have the polarity inverted.

Hi Jay, just one thing to know about this antenna.you must choose the best spreader you can, because the sun burn them a lot, and when there will be windy, the spreaders will break.but really nice antenna, now i have spiderbeam HD with best results than hexbeam, but it's not the same size and weight.....have a good day, and best dx with hexbeam.73's johann F4FEP

Hello dear Oliver, yes you are right, they must correct this error, but they told me there are no problems in their life with that manufacturer. but someone told me to use the hardened foam to block the spreader in the central part.i will try this solution, when i down the antenna, perhaps this winter.here 140km/h of wind without problems.regards.johann
@otromikro9 жыл бұрын
Buffff. I would buy this antenna but i live in an area with strong wind storms in autumn 100-150kmh and once I saw the video I think not survive ... Indeed if the central mast does not move and the antenna is close to 1 meter displacement, I think unacceptable. MUST be corrected.

F4FEP Ok, I am glad that beam is still active. Yes, I saw the suggestion that one of our amateur wrote on other of Your video. I think simple foam would be just fine for that space. Hi, I just happened upon your video of the Spiderbeam HD shaking in the wind. I am also a HD Spiderbeam user. The shaking will not harm the antenna. But, I use a product from Loctite (Loctite 660) that fills the gap between the aluminum and the fiberglass and then locks the fiberglass to the aluminum so it no longer flops around inside the aluminum tube. To release the fiberglass from the aluminum it is necessary to heat the aluminum tube to 177 degrees C, and the fiberglass will then pop right out. I tried it as a test, but have not yet broken a spreader in actual use. I also add additional support lines to the spreaders and tie them back to the center post of the antenna. I only need two additional lines per spreader on top and on the bottom (four total on each spreader) and live in a wind zone where we regularly exceed 100 mph winds. There will still be some twisting in the wind attributable to the play in the rotator, but the fiberglass spreaders will no longer rock around in the aluminum tubes. There is a very good Spiderbeam users group on Yahoo with all sorts of information. 73's KE7ZAG Randy

F4FEP Did it work well with the TV rotor before the storm? And did you replace it with another TV rotor? That same rotor is all I've ever used here because of the cost but I'm thinking of putting a larger antenna on my rotor about the same footprint as the hex and I'm wondering what to expect. Thanks. I'm glad your hed survived!
