Great video. Just to pass on some learnt info, I saw on another video that cleaning the mould with alcohol will remove the " ghost film" after 24hours , before de moulding , I'm going to give it a go. She uses the very detailed filigree moulds & it works a treat. Love all your moulds. 😊

Question I used the silicone for my lace mold and hot glued it to a jar...how do I seal it? I'm afraid the lace will break as it's malleable? Thanks 😊
@Monikas_Handmade_CompendiumАй бұрын
Hi. I do not seal the embellishments. When you paint them with acrylics or chalk paint they don’t need sealing. But you can seal them with Mod Podge sealant, i have tried that. Once you glue this down should be fine. Happy Crafting 😀💜🙏

Hi. After the shapes are fully dry and taken out of the silicone moulds, paint/prime them with gesso. This will give the shape a grippy layer so the paint can stick on them. Check out my mixed media projects, I use white gesso to prime my whole project before painting. Thanks for asking 😀💜🙏 Happy Crafting

There are many projects there that you can use for inspiration. I remember once I decorated sphere ornaments, not sure I recorded the process but it can be done because the acrylic gap filler, caulking is flexible after drying. Hi. Info about glues I use. First I would suggest to prime the surface with gesso. This will give the surface a texture and grip for glues and objects. The glues i use are Finnabair - heavy body gel and soft gloss or matt gel. These gel glues are very tacky and hold strong after drying. Great for heavy objects like these acrylic embellishments. Any brand with these titles are good. Another glue which works really well is by Create It called Craft Liquid Glue. This is like glue gun glue, stringy buts holds very strong after drying. Both these glues I have used are still holding my projects together. You can check out the Mixed Media Projects playlist. Most of the projects their I use these glues and list them in the description box and most of the embellishments are acrylic. You can also experiment with other glues, if time permits. @lzrd8460 Жыл бұрын
So many of these have gaps & places where the acrylic didn’t fill in. Is there a way to get them to look more uniform? I use paper clay but have never tried this acrylic filler stuff. Just curious if the irregularities are because of using the filler or because you didn’t fill them properly. Just wondering. I have the IOD border mold and with paper clay they fill in perfectly. The good think about the acrylic filler is that they stay flexible so can be used later on. With the clay, I have to form it over my project and glue it down right away. I like the idea that with acrylic, they can be made in bulk as you are doing here. How do these age? Do they turn yellow? Not that it matters because they will be painted anyway. How do you know how long to leave them in their molds? You waited two days but I’m wondering how we will know when they are ready to be unmolded?
@Monikas_Handmade_Compendium Жыл бұрын
With the gaps, it is the way i filled them. But if you take your time, can be smoothed out. Yes i have used air dry clay too, smooth finish, i agree what you said. I have the border IOD moulds too, excellent for clay not so much for acrylic filler but can be achieved, I have tried. They do not age and do not yellow or crack over time. They stay the same. And stay flexible too. I am still using my bulk stash to this day. With the un moulding, you can pick them up and bend the mould see if they come of the sides and if they still stick to the mould. If sticky still leave them in longer. Also feel the top. Sticky needs more time. Also if they come out and feel sticky you can leave them to air dry. They will dry completely. You can also try one small shape and experiment.

What is the work time for this acrylic stuff, how long before it dries too much to manipulate?

I don’t think there is a work time limit. I did not feel rushed when I was filling up several moulds in a day.

Aren’t you concerned about the acrylic stuff left on the molds? Will it wash off easily once dried???
@Monikas_Handmade_Compendium Жыл бұрын
Not concerned at all. Because it is a thin film on top of the moulds and the acrylic is fully dried, peels off very easily and you can wash off with warm soapy water too. To this day, some moulds still have the access acrylic on them and I can still peel them off and clean them. Apologies for late replies to all your comments. Much appreciate you taking time to ask. 😀💜🙏

I see this vid is three years old but I feel compelled to make a few points. NOT ALL acrylic sealants work for molds. One MUST find one that is acrylic with SOME silicon in order for it to be flexible. I made this mistake when I first began. If there is no silicon in it, it dries hard and breaks up easily. Impossible to use for this type of craft. Also, the sealant must NOT be 100% silicon, otherwise it will stick permanently to your molds, ruining it. Lastly, in order for the sealant to pop out of the mold, it is best to dust corn flour/ corn starch (same thing) into the molds before squeezing in sealant. All this info can be easily found in more recent vids on You Tube.
@Monikas_Handmade_Compendium Жыл бұрын
Hi. No worries at all. If that is your experience with ALL acrylic sealants that’s fine. The points I have made in my videos about Monarch acrylic gap filler still stands to this day. Just a point to make. I have stored the shapes made from this acrylic gap filler since making the videos and they are still flexible and ready to be used.

Place on a small stand on your desktop in your favourite room to admire and remember what this made you feel when you were creating this art piece. You may also incorporate this art piece into a larger canvas, make it a focal point and create around this art piece and hang the canvas on a wall to be admired by passers by. You may also make another two small canvases with flying insects and make it three to be displayed on a wall. You can also make more 4x4 canvases and make a collage on a bigger canvas and display on a wall or desk. There are many possibilities for this 4x4 piece of art work. Just use imagination 💭 Thank you for taking an interest. Happy Crafting 😀💜🙏
