RC Bray is great and certainly tied to ZA genre... but am I crazy to suggest to try and get Ray Porter who is closer to SF content?
@michaelstephenfuchs-author5 күн бұрын
No, that actually sounds like a pretty good shout, and is appreciated. (Not least because - and I perhaps shouldn't say this in public, but then again who's going to see this, really? - Bray is getting nearly impossible to schedule. We're all victims of his richly deserved success.)

Hey Michael, I was just listening to another favorite another of mine, Craig Alenson. Different author, same badass narrator. Anyway, I'm listening to his latest book, number 17, in his Columbus Day series named Task Force Hammer. This is the Audible version, so I'm not sure if the chapters line up with the physical book. That said, starting at about 4 minutes into chapter 14 and ending at about 8:30 in, Craig's ultra intelligent and extremely awesome AI is giving the main protagonist, Joe Bishop a pep talk, and it made me think of you. Here's a guy who pulls miracle after miracle out of his ass and then, between miracles, questions himself to the point of losing sleep over it. Skippy, the AI says to Joe, exactly what I'd like to say to you. You're doing great, man. If you happen to take a listen to your boy R.C. Brey spilling some wisdom on Joe via Skippy, know that people out here are thinking the same thing about you.

Okay, I wasn't an "operator," but I was Army. I did 30 years in the military between serving in the active duty and the National Guard. I served in a couple wars, worked to secure our southern border, provided force protection, and trained soldiers to face a variety of challenges as they deployed to war themselves. On the civilian side, I went through the carpenter's apprenticeship for the union and helped build a lot of what is now Seattle, Bellevue, Bothell, Redmond, and Tacoma. As of now, I'm working as an instructor at a local technical college teaching a Construction Technologies course... Why am I telling you this? Because I am also a writer... or trying to be. Writing, for me, is by far the hardest job of any of these. I would say that being an instructor is a close second, but facing yourself is to constantly question if what you're doing even makes sense. I never questioned myself like this when I was swinging a hammer, either literally in construction or metaphorically in the military. Thanks for doing the work. Thank you for sticking with it. And thanks for staying humble about it. It was a great thing you did.
@michaelstephenfuchs-author3 ай бұрын
Wow. Really awesome message. (And super-validating. I always think about Cheryl Strayed's quote - “Writing is hard for every last one of us… Coal mining is harder. Do you think miners stand around all day talking about how hard it is to mine for coal? They do not. They simply dig.” - which always makes me think I should shut up with the whining, count my blessings, and just get back to work.) Moreover, your background is also truly awesome - the kind of person I'm honored and humbled to have as a reader. I wish you every good fortune with your writing journey - and I'm here whenever I can offer any advice or support. Finally, though not least, thanks for your very kind words, and the great support you've already given me.

I have looked up to them since a child playing GI Joe....... I served regular Navy. But A part of me feels I failed for not at least trying to be a ground pounder.... But I served with honor. My DD 214 says so.... With there permission there stories should be known!!!!!!! By God there WARRIORS!!!!!!!! After having my heart attack I was a real emotional wreck. Life almost claimed me. But my soul is not ready for the next step.... I did think of those Warriors to help me mentally and physically to recover no matter the pain.... A Special Ops saved me!!!!!!! THANK YOU

Hey, John! Thanks so much for this. For starters, hey, you wore the uniform. As the elite guys will be the very first to tell you, everyone in the military has a job, and nothing happens without everyone doing theirs. Second, I'm delighted you've been as inspired by these guys as I have been. (Also glad you're still with us.) Bravo Zulu! All best, brother. - m
