I'm in an art school, and I also find a lot of these old artists so cool, and it makes me want to paint so bad. I'm finally in a colour theory painting class, and its really fun. We have a portrait painting project soon, I'm probably going to struggle so hard. I really like the style your painting came out.

Great artwork. Here are some tips from a regular painter: 1. Consider what light is around you in your room. Painting with a warm room light could dull your color when gazed at in natural light and vice versa with cold light. I always recommend painting in nautral light, but so consider this when this isnt a possibility 2. Buy slow drying medium. Mines by Schmincke and it delays the drying time for a few hours. This isnt as long as oils, but prevents the paints from going gloopy, which might have caused fhe fuzziness in your painting 3. For the fuzziness: i also dont clean my brush relugarly, but wiping it on wood or a palette could be enough to get rid of the worst 4. To not have a gloopy end result, wait a few hours when you notice the gloop starting to form. I also sometimes scrape the gloopy spots away if theyre bothering me too much 5. Use bigger brushes! This helps in many ways. Creating a great silhouette, having bold clean lines and confident strokes. I usually start with a big brush, put in shadows and highlights with a medium brush, blend them a bit and then shade the tiniest details like the hands or face with a small brush 6. To counteract muddy colors i use the CMY palette (cyan, magenta, yellow). This makes skintones vibrant and not muddy, since no blacks and the likes were used. Mixing Crimson and Ultramarine for example would create a muddy mess while Magenta and Cyan dont. Simple color theory, but worth having in mind 7. If youre planning on having a dark background, tone your paper in a midtone at least(magenta, burnt umber etc) the color doesn't matter too much, but it will shine through where paper would when using rough brushstrokes 8. This is not a tip, i just really agree that your shading is on point, your understanding of values definitely translates I hope this helped somewhat, we've all been beginners at some point and i think considering or looking into some of my tips kight help you, even if you discover some wont match your style, like the brush or color palette tip

NGL this is one of my new favorite videos of yours :D it was very interesting to watch/listen to, and I love your art commentary (I was laughing at 1:50 ahaha). I've been trying to watch yt less lately but I always love watching your videos bc I know there won't be any drama, your vids have a very comforting vibe tbh. And I loved the drawing!! The shading of the skin was very dimensional, and detail is something I also leave out a lot so I definitely felt validated with this lmao, and at the same time inspired :,) what you said about sometimes needing to stop thinking and just draw really rings true, I feel like I'm intimidated of adding detail in my work a lot of the time but I think I'll try doing it a little more often now. Sorry for the long comment ahaha, and I love how the piece turned out, especially the green and gold accents and the little kitty :)))

I wish I could find a photo to show you, but I drew a kitty that looked just like this years ago, haha. Pink tail bow and all <3 This looks really well done. I own tons of Copic's and Ohuhu markers, but then switched mostly to digital art myself and I SO wish I would put in the time and effort to get better so my poor supplies can be used instead of sitting in all of my art bins getting lonely lol. I love the colors and warmth to this. Their skin looks well blended & nice <3
