Great pics ..... I worked in the ice cream hut when I was a kid ....... Southport used to have soul back then ....... But the life has been sucked out of it slowly over the years .........what have we done to his country ........... Poor old Southport ...... Shit tip now ....... Same as Blackpool .............

Happy memories. Interesting to see so many businesses now sadly gone. The sea front has vastly improved though.

It is so sad that Sefton let it get like that after it being such a great place to live in through the sixties. And now it is even worse Skelmersdale on sea. Everything that made it unique demolished.

One of the pics show where I live now but as a kid 77 to 81 was my era for kicking about Southport and these pics sum up the atmosphere of a Sunday perfectly. A train fare, a morning in the baths and a ride or two in the Fair for less than a quid. It looked a bit dilapidated back then and I fear it's going the same way in 2019.

Don't you just love people who like to show the bad side? So negative. Southport has changed and had £m's spent on a new pier, Marine Way Bridge, sea wall, Ocean Plaza on Marine Drive, refurbished most of the main streets and the Monument, All Lord Street gardens well maintained, King's Gardens completely upgraded including the footbridge over the Marin Lake and the Atkinson/library had a £9m spent on it. Thank you so much to the Liberal Democrats.

Happy memories of Southport - what a surprise to click on a link from Southport GB and see that the thumbnail picture was our newsagents, right at the end of the film. Our dog Sheba was very popular with the customers and used to love lying on the pavement in the sun outside. We had the shop for 10 years, selling it in 1982 when my parents retired. I live down south now but visit Southport from time to time and although the shop has changed hands many times since those days, it's always nice to see that the Cleveland cafe (or Eric's as we knew it, as seen in a couple of photos in this film just before 'ours') is still very much as it was.

My god Southport looked a rat hole then. Horrible and grim. Thankfully the place as had some money spent on it and today is much nicer.
