To the drunk on Mosko Koolaid folks - this jacket is marketed as an all-around riding garment. See their description: "The Basilisk IR Jacket is designed to perform during athletic, technical riding through primarily off-road terrain in a wide range of weather conditions." I bought both jacket and pants 1st gen and sent them back. The Basilisk is so fundamentally flawed, the list is longer than just non functional venting - the garmet is a mess a big miss on Moskos part. And I have a lot of their and riding gear, most is OK, this piece in particular is nothing more than a ski jacket being sold as a ADV jacket. That is the most positive thing I can say about it.

When you changed from the stock size 120/90/17 on the DR650 to the D606 did you change the inner tube? I have a 130/70/17 D606, would I need a new inner tube? I'm trying to search this myself but I'm either stupid or nobody has really ever said anything in order to find it.

Wow. Thanks. As it's marketed as a shell I was thinking it would be kind of cool. Can anyone recommend something similar that is water proof and ventilates? I bet Mosko will try to sell the little grabby things as an add on like they did with the "Gnoblin" .

I’ve run the MT21/D606 on my DRZ for the last couple of seasons but this year swapped to a set of D605s as I’m spending more time on pavement. A much much nicer tire on the road than the previous setup. If you’re 80%+ on dirt then the 606/21 but otherwise a 50/50 like the D605 is brilliant and awesome on gravel/hard pack trails, fire roads etc.

Thanks for review. I was looking at the Basilisk. Guess not anymore. For super hot, I would suggest of of the AA abrasion resistant armor shirts and carry a lighter waterproof shell for cooler mornings and rain.

great video. I'm getting a bike to travel aus soon and the possibility of having to change a tire alone at the side of the road (or in the outback) is definitely the most stressful thought for me, so it's super useful watching your experience and reflections.

All very interesting mate like I said I have an academic interest in the subject . Good synopsis. One of the best survival books I have seen to this day was the American Scouts manual I got 55 years ago. Amazing amount of detail and general knowledge. Far superior to many of the army manuals we had on the subject. It is more general knowledge of course and not specific to Australian conditions.
@tonyrdr72078 ай бұрын
Hi mate you are taking this surviving the outback touring very seriously aren’t you 😂. All very interesting I always had a soft spot for survival and bush kraft knowledge since I was introduced to it in the Army. Now that i am retired and have more time I might attend a couple of courses again just out of interest. You sound just like me and when I got out of the army 😂 A tarp a bivi bag and cutting wood for pegs and poles a frying pan some oil salt and pepper and a 22 to bring down some food was all I used to take. Much to the dismay 😩 of some mates that believed me when I said I have everything lol. Going lightweight is important but to a point. I regularly go on a month or more long trips and having a comfortable kit is important. The epiphany came for me when I got stuck in torrential rain on the Strzeleki track with the above kit. Mud and an inch of water everywhere and sideways rain did not make for a happy Tony for the tree days it took for the track to be navigable again. Was wet and miserable and all my gear was wet. I thought what the fuck am I doing I am in the special forces selection course, this is supposed to be fun. I now have a good quality 2 men lightweight tent, nothing over the top, it is great to be able to move around read a book stay dry with my gear and even cook very carefully out of the rain. This worked really well in the Canning Stock Route when again conditions turned to shit. It took me years but now I have a good balance of light versus comfortable and functional. Could I go lighter probably but my kit has got me unsupported through the Simpson Madigan CSR and mountains with out much trouble and is very comfortable and functional. It is also not always the most expensive kit. Through process of elimination you will arrive at a similar kit by yourself eventually and they can be fun in itself but I am quite happy to point you in the right direction. The tree quarter mattress is an excellent idea I use to this day. Just in case you have not thought about it yourself out your jacket opened up by your feet and your T shirt and pants on top of it when you sleep. This completes the full size mattress feel nicely. Keep it up mate all very entertaining. Just came back from a trip to Tasmania. Amazing place you have to visit.

Imo all Mosko gear is for pnw. Doesn’t work so good in utah. Bags too heavy and clothes for wet. Love inside boot mesh pants are my fav! I use baskils in winter and klim mesh jacket in summer with a large cheapo rain jacket in morning. I’m good to be cold but I hate being too hot.
@TheFoxyt28 ай бұрын
so I have the newer gen of the basilisk jacket and its still hot, but it doesn't have those rain flaps that trap the air or prevent the air from going in. so, because its hot and I'm a heat sissy. I will use the klim baja s4 during the summer and the mosko during the winter. Using a cheapo rain jacket to block the wind on the klim mesh jacket in the mornings or if there is a summer storm. In fact, the klim mesh is too hot and I hope to pickup a workhorse jersey/shirt and run just that unless I'm going above 60mph and the slide protection basilisk isn't too hot.

My Olympia jacket has velcro strips in the vent flaps to fold them back and hold them open to allow air in. It's a very good design. Also there's not a riding jacket on this planet worth $1250 dollars!
@jasminebebe34558 ай бұрын
I own and love this set... This is a ridiculous complaint that you cannot wear a coat in 100 degrees..... SMH. Also the coat is not 1200 bucks so you are a liar to boot. The whole set is 1200 if you include the pants.

Thanks for the vid. Came here because my DR is possibly leaking oil, but somewhere else. I didn’t do anything to it but it had shop service including trying to fix an oring leak when it was still under warranty. Might not have cleaned the engine after. I’ve never taken it apart but it doesn’t look like it has too many pieces in there with only 1 cylinder 😅.

Learn what the intended purpose of a "Shell Jacket" is. I've never had the issues you complain about and I wear it from near zero degrees to +40 C. Sounds like buyer's remorse. Maybe you should put it up for sale and recover the bulk of what you spent. There's no shortage of buyers in the Mosko Moto re-sale market.
@IRLtrolls9 ай бұрын
My man bought a very clearly labeled 3 season cool weather jacket and tried to wear it in the summer. I really don’t understand what you thought was going to happen. Even with those vents wide open it’s not going to vent well enough in 100+ degrees. Especially in a humid climate like the American gulf coast.
@syntarx7 ай бұрын
I thought the exact same thing. Why would you wear a waterproof shell in dry, >100°F. Why not a jersey? With this system your supposed to wear the protection on your body anyways.
@dayneeastman13166 ай бұрын
He said he had to take it off cuz he got hot like that's not exactly how it was designed to work. Mesh jackets are your friend.
@svenschrecker9 ай бұрын
When it’s cold, you need to layer up, like you said. It’s just a shell. As for dealing with heat, when I had my leather jacket, I’d just unzip the main zip partway and the air would rush in. Can you simply do that without needing to shove a spring into the vent?
@SuprUnknownYT9 ай бұрын
Sry to say so, but you didn't understand the concept at all. Pls check the layer concept. They considered a base layer, "armour" layer .... and for the bad weather conditions there is this Basilisk. Hence, you only wear that Basilisk only in rain, etc. The design is right but you used it wrongly.

Why don't do research before you buy stuff, must be better than buying clothes that doesn't suit your riding/climate. I'm looking into Mosko today(that's why your vid popped up) and the owner says he doesn't use that jacket when it's hot, so why do you do it ?
@inhardinated10 ай бұрын
I do a fair bit of research…but there’s nothing on the website that I saw that says this is a cold weather jacket. And frankly, even it it was a cold weather jacket…there’s still zero airflow. You still need to vent the jacket. And if you wear this jacket in the cold weather…you’ll see that it’s actually, VERY cold. I ride from -5 to 45. But that’s just me. And I’m not going to carry two jackets. I’m just going to buy another jacket that has proper ventilation. You should buy this jacket though. I’m sure it will suit your climate perfectly. You’ll be very happy with your purchase.
@Westdag7810 ай бұрын
@@inhardinated Mosko is all abut layers, even protection is a separate layer, and this jacket is about weather protection, so offcourse it's cold alone and too hot when it's 40°c. Fair point the vents isn't very effective, but waterproof and 40°c is never a good match.
@Impedancenetwork10 ай бұрын
I don't know... that title is misleading. That jacket isn't $1250. Even with Texas 8.25% taxes that jacket is $735 with tax. Is this guy in Australia? Maybe it's $1250 if you live overseas? Maybe that dollar amount is Australian dollars? I don't know but anyone living in the United Stated you can buy the jacket and pants for $1250. I have the Revit! sand 4 H20 pants and jacket. Man that is da'shit! I rode in 105 degree Texas heat for 7 hours with and then rode in Wyoming for 4.5 hours in 45degF rain and didn't get a drop inside my gear. I crashed recently at 40mph wearing the Revit Sand 4 H20 jacket with the integrated pads and I hit the concrete and rolled like a rolling pin and ended up in a 5 foot drainage ditch on the side of the road. Stood up with no abrasions and no impact injuries. Jacket and pants are $1005 with Texas taxes (8.25%). I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Revit Sand 4 H20 adventure gear.

Good on ya matey! Glad you were able to get up and walk away from that stack. Sounds like you took a massive hit. Yeah, agreed, Revit makes great quality jackets as does Klim. Mosko, however, does not. I love their other stuff…just not their jacket. The jacket was purchased in Australian dollars…and I can assure you it was most certainly $1250. Texas rocks btw! Legit state. Some of my favourite jiu-jitsu players fight out of Texas! Stay hard brother.
