I was hoping to save it, simply because I spent so long looking around the map for a good start point (there really needs to be an overlay or something for that), but you're probably right, I don't think it can be saved. I think making the carbon skimmer sieve combo is a good call it would make it mostly automated. Have you done the math on whether the ethanol is more efficient than just straight lumber? It seems like it might take more energy to make the ethanol than what the ethanol burners will produce.
@GHondo
@GHondo 10 күн бұрын
I've thought about that a few times now, and I'm still torn on that one. On the one hand, it would eliminate the need for a pump, as it would be a completely enclosed loop once it's been primed once, thus saving power, which is very good. On the other hand, unless I go up to 5 skimmers (which is how many 1 sieve can support), it's wasting some of the cleaning value (where as now, I get the excess clean water back in my perpetually low clean water pool). So I'm really not sure. I suppose if I ever feel the need to add yet more skimmers, then it'll definitely be worth it, but with just 3, I'm torn. On the wood/ethanol side, no, I haven't actually run the numbers but you're right, I probably should do that at some point. :)
@GHondo
@GHondo 10 күн бұрын
As a follow up - the math was doing my head in (I'm having a bad headache day today), so I wimped out & asked the ONI Wiki, something I normally hate doing. Turns out the Wood Burner and Ethanol versions are very close to identical in terms of efficiency, so I'll probably just have some of each. The other thing it told me is I probably have too many trees. Oh well, can't be bad to have more trees than you need, right? :)

I decided that rather than fight with it, I would just add a mod that lets me force the direction without messing around. Hey dont want to be mean but i really wish you knew the mechanics better because it makes the game much more enjoyable. This is almost painful to watch man Can i give you a couple tips? 1. Trucks can pass under any pipes or conveyors 2 level or higher, ONLY excavators and mega vehicles need the ramp. 2. Try to automate everything, basic example: construction parts has 3 inputs, start with building 3 INPUT storages and set the demand bar to request to be always be full. That way trucks will fill these 3 storages and feed parts to assembly via belts. And later on for example use converyors to bring in concrete from wherever it is made. 3. Those turbine power generators can be chained in any way you want up to combimed 72mw of mechanical energy. For example you can have say 4 turbines, 2 low pressure turbines, 8 generators and 2 fly wheels all chained into one shaft and it works fine, saving much room. Sorry to be backseating but i just wish you can understand the game better and have more fun
@GHondo
@GHondo 2 ай бұрын
I am sorry if you are not enjoying it as much as you could be. It is absolutely true that while I have learned a fair bit about this game through playing it for half an hour a day, I still don't really know what I'm doing, but let me address your points in order if I may: 1 - The trucks driving under pipes part I did know about, but I still like to use ramps all over the place just to make sure the excavators can still get around. I do recognize I am placing way more of them than are really necessary most of the time (and often mention that while placing these excessive ramps), so it's now a bit of a joke. I guess isn't as funny as it could be... :) 2 - I do try to at least partially automate everything, but to actually fully automate everything at this point would likely require ripping almost the entire island apart and redoing it properly. I'm currently working around the legacy of the stuff I build at the very beginning when I had absolutely zero clue what I was doing. I had already been thinking about making Season 2, whenever that is, as a 100% automated setup. My idea was I have no more than a couple trucks, and they are only allowed to haul stuff for new construction, and absolutely nothing else. I thought that would make an interesting challenge. 3 - The turbines part I definitely did not know. From what I was reading in game, it sounded like they had to be short, but I guess I should have done more experimentation, so that's on me. In any rate, I definitely appreciate the tips, and I don't consider it back seating or being mean spirited or anything like that, so do not worry about it. I'm just trying really hard to put out content that people may actually enjoy, so any feedback is good feedback. Thanks so much!

I suppose that will come in handy at some point, but seems less than helpful this early in the game.

@@GHondo Your right it is not very helpful for a good little long while and even later it just saves time so it is never really super useful.

The new DLCs creates a lot more rescourse sinks so I find that they up the difficulty a bit all by themselves.

Good to know! I guess it's good I'm now such an expert at the game, having thorough conquered Vanilla at the absolute easiest skill settings... :)

I quite like it. Always looking to make things more and more efficient, while trying to balance all sorts of interconnected parts. In a way it reminds me of Factorio (if you play with no biters, that is). :)

Awesome! I'd never made that connection, but that makes a lot of sense. And what a great movie... "Everybody Fights, No One Quits!" :)

@@GHondo I'm on my first ever playthrough of factorio, and the fact I haven't really played much of the tutorial combined with the fact that I connect my earbuds to my phone and listen to educational videos while playing it I made one discovery after another and have placed turrets all around and am keeping them supplied with piercing bullets. The bugs just don't have a chance. Now I'm trying to build the artillery turret so that we can "sweep" the area

I do the same, turrets absolutely everywhere! I just run a long single conveyor belt in a huge circle around the whole base, so an ammo factory can keep a continuous chain of ammo ready for whichever turret need it. Having said that, wait until you start using oil for flamethrower turrets. There are few words for how much fun it is the first time they light the night up... :)
