I have always struggled with being able to ask questions to understand and document them at the same time. One of the most obvious ways going about is to have another team member be the scribe. But the problem with that is what if their documentation doesn't make relevant sense later on? What are some of the other ways going about it ? @nz365guy - I have found that depending upon the nature of the client we cannot take photos in our ipads all the time as it might be classified but I do find that method useful when we can take photos. One of the questions you asked was reg ensuring usability as a key part of AC. What I have done and think it works is this. I had a client migrating from a system to Dynamics 365. So I took access to their env to see what fields and sections are used by them and replicated that in their dev instance (not my personal demo env) D365 as a starting point. Based on other easy and quick to implment requirements we would add more relevant tabs or sections with fieds on them and showcase it later to a client in one of the meetings. That would be ground zero to understand from them if the fields make sense in the spot they are kept it. Else we would move it up or down depending upon usability. Also allow them to take screenshots from the model driven app which is exactly what they will be using post going live. So that gives a real sense of what it will look like in reality. Additionally, this could be an ongoing process for quite some time into several sprints where they might change their mind several times. So again the question that arises here is how to manage that. My two cents. Cheers.

I believe good Architects are not the people who know everything about different components of technology, specially with this massive evolving of technologies thats not possible. Instead they are good at asking the right questions. For example, a good solution architect in one hand asks good questions from stakeholders to understand their problems well, and on the other hand asks good questions from developers about those points of technology that they are not sure about. And it comes only from experiences, not certifications. The same happens to enterprise architects with a difference that the people they ask their questions from are different, on one hand C levels of organization and on the other hand SAs. And in the era of AI, both EAs and SAs must be highly skilled in prompt engineering as well. Asking the right questions from AI. 😊

Ohh..... technology/IT project is like going shopping: you go to the shop, you get a thing, and you have a waranty for a thing. Managing/consultancy services is a lot more like an experiece, a day out - a tough mudder: you tough it out during the day, you have nothing to show for it and yet you feel a better person at the end....

AGI is not possible, period. Mainly because of our emotions that drive our actions which is determined by hormones. So unless engineering and biology merge, I am certain this is not a possibility.

Great chat highlighting the bigger view (again). Just a bit of a sideways question: what would be an outlook about enterprise organisations bringing some of the compute power back in house (on-prem), in the light of compute power requirements for AI as well as any sort of related data regulations. Cloud is great in many cases, however some associated costs can start going through the roof when AI is involved. Would that be a case for having the hybrid setup approach? Is it worth a discussion topic?

Despite of this all call being pretty much bespokely badgered, woith a bit less swearing and alcohol, the point about data and AI. The comment was about crap data in crap results out, there element in Chris' cautiousness as in your AI will be learning on bad data and will have skewed outcomes and will apply them to the data, even the good one, later in the future. It is like trying to learn some sport action technique and learning it incorrectly what often leads to unsatisfactory results or even injury. CONSIDER THAT!!! ;)

The technology triangle/pyramid that has got workloads at the top and the rest below, shows that if you purchase some technology to fulfil the workload alone, it got no base to stand on (unless provided as part of the purchase). Companies, to be more accurate, people that work in companies to this day often purchase apps and very often struggle the the rest that should or comes with it, but have got no clue or interest in platform(s). Purchasing a piece of functional technology for it to work always has to come with underpinnings so that triangle has got a base to stand on. Also, as discussed - the name of the 'Consultant' has been bastardised. many partners send "consultants" to do technology implementation, but not any of the consulting. I often ask nowadays - are you a technology consultant or a business consultant, who's got awareness of technology? Always great to hear you lot speak.

I am not sold yet on Copilots. Too many basic things take longer via Copilot than just doing manually. At the moment it is still an interesting diversion for about 30 minutes, then you close it and go back to work. I understand that Priority #1 was to slap Copilots on every product in sight, but I eagerly look forward to the next pass where they actually add value. It needs to do something for me that I either could not easily do myself, or do it much faster. Not a lot has changed since I wrote this back in June stevemordue.com/microsoft-is-infected-with-ai-as-copilots-consume-all-of-the-oxygen/

I think this is what i call... "A Fight Club Moment".. Where Marla Singer and un-named Ed Norton are standing in that sky scraper watching the banks getting blown to shit...."We are in a transitional phase". I think this is not necessarily about the NOW but it about the propensity of the now. 1. Bolt on copilots to EVERYTHING 2. Hype it up 3. Allow people to sandbox and TRY! 4. Make it awesome 5. Deploy I think we are in the Sandboxing phase where data will be collected and engagement will be monitored... Then shit will get REAL interesting REAL fast. Yes, some of the things Microsoft do, do not work. But I believe this process of bolting copilots onto everything has been in the pipeline for a long time. There is a plan here... I'm just not sure what it is. My thoughts here, Let's keep testing, Trying, pushing.... And feeding back to make this MORE awesome for everyone. Also this only works is we really push the boundaries.

Mark your point on digital literacy is spot on. In an ideal world, the executive board would set the overall business goals and since technology is so embedded in operations, it would be the board's collective responsibility to answer the questions of what business goals they feel technology can have the most significant impact on, this would pave the way for a well-guided digital transformation journey. The CTO/CIO, with this top-down guidance, could focus on implementation. leveraging enterprise architecture would ensure they select the best technology to address the identified challenges. with such a "trickle down" approach to technology decisions, solutions would likely be more versatile, future-proof and most importantly, deliver higher business value. after all, that's the ultimate purpose of using technology. Our job as consultants should start through influence and education at that board level all the way to delivery and self sufficiency enablement.
@megsmithnz
@megsmithnz Жыл бұрын
Love that - empower boards with the responsibility to take all their domain and governance knowledge and be able to drive the role technology needs to play in their evolving organisations. Then rather than building the house one brick at a time (such a good analogy), they'd start with a strong foundation to build on.
