Hmm, that’s strange. @cosmicnick4186
@cosmicnick4186 Ай бұрын
If it doesn’t clear up from wipes or isopropyl alcohol, it might need to be retrobrighted. The easiest way for an at-home method would likely be to buy some hydrogen peroxide and fill a small clear container with it and submerge the piece in there. If you don’t have UV lights, you can place the container outside, but this will likely take more time. OddTinkering has a good video about how to retrobright, but their setup is more advanced.

Thank you. I appreciate the support and kind words. I’d avoid a paper towel for cleaning this device because it’s very rough and can leave scratches. Isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip is what a lot of repair people use to clean, but wet wipes are good and can make cleaning bigger items easier. I’m not sure if there’s another way to remove the screw covers carefully, but I use a sturdy needle that I can put some pressure on. I try to go from the corners and get under them, but sometimes I still slip and scratch the console or poke the screw covers and leave a bit of damage. It’ll take some practice

Yes, it’s possible to remove just the top cover if you don’t need to replace the screen or anything else in the top assembly. I’ve done it on a couple of DS Lites that I’ve worked on. It might be a little trickier to remove the screw covers because you won’t be able to lay the assembly flat on the table while the DS Lite is open, but as long as you’re careful it should be all good. Oh btw, update, screen arrived and I went to fix it myself, but when I went to unscrew all the screws I found out one of them is stripped and yeah I'm fucked up :'), guess I just lost my childhood console, because I tried son many times to move it from where it is now and it's not moving a single inch. I don't know what to do, I tried tape as well, and the tape around it breaks. The hole is very tiny so I can't try many other things, and the screw is very down the hole. I am very sad
@cosmicnick4186
@cosmicnick4186 3 ай бұрын
Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that. Stripped screws are an absolute nightmare and are definitely what I hate most when trying to fix things. I wouldn’t lose hope though. There are certain screwdrivers designed for stripped screws but I haven’t looked into them, and the screws for the DS Lite are so small that it might be hard to find one that will work. I’ve drilled into stripped screws before to remove them. It basically will break the head of the screw from the bottom, and if it’s done carefully, it won’t damage the shell; although, I know that can be quite the risk and it takes patience depending on ye drill type. Definitely hold on to the DS Lite. I still have my childhood DS Lite that I broke years ago, and I fully intend to fix it one day. Another solution may be to break the back shell, replace the piece, and swap the serial number labels but I see how that option may not be too appealing either. I hope everything will work out for the best

The DS lite is a relatively simple device to work on, but getting the feel for how to reattach the antenna cables properly or how to plug the ribbon cables for the screens back in without damaging them really comes with experience. I suggest going slowly and taking photos of how things are positioned as you go and where small pieces like the springs for the triggers are aligned so that you can reference them when putting it back together. Also, the springs for the triggers are very easy to loose, so be careful with those as well. There are four different screws, the silver Phillips (all the same size in the device), the gold Phillips screws that are under the two rubber screw covers on the back (those are longer so careful not to mix them up with the silver ones), the silver tri-wing screws (those are the longest - be careful not to put them in the wrong spot or they’ll screw through the plastic), and then a black tri-wing screw (this is the smallest screw I think. Practice is really key, but if you’re careful, it should be a relatively safe repair. If you’re worried about damaging it though, then it might not be worth the risk. I’ll post a disassembly guide eventually that will go in depth on the best way that I’ve found to work on this device. I hope this helps

The plastic cover that's over the real cover, where this dirt gets stuck in between, which is why it's so hard to clean, I wonder why we can't tear these 2 plastic pieces appart. You know what I mean? The white parts of the console, or covers, are covered by a transparent plastic cover and between these 2 is where the dirt gets stuck, especially around the edges, and it just annoys me so much I can't dismantle these 2 to clean DEEPLY. @@cosmicnick4186 Anytime, if I can support you I'm happy! Mine is exactly the same as the one from this video. NDSL and white colour too, and the dirt is like this, but it's because I got it when I was 9 yrs old, that's how it got so dirty, now I know I can clean most of it (I'm 23 now and I am more careful hehe) and the top screen basically one day it went all on lines, it's filled with pastel colour lines, you can't even see anything from the game you're playing, not a single pixel, and it happened as I was in the middle of a Pokémon game, I suddenly saw my screen go all on lines and I was like 10 at the time and I was like ok WTF? Appart from this the hinge broke as well, out of nowhere, because I never damaged/dropped the console for these things to occur. @@LeonSKennedyxx Yea, top screens are usually the trickiest part of taking apart handhelds. The DS Lite hinges are notorious for breaking so easily. I’ve definitely had my share of breaking things worse that I’ve tried to fix lol. Whenever I work on something for the first time, I always feel like I’m going to break it. Experience is definitely key, and it took a little bit of time to figure out the tips and tricks of disassembling and reassembling the DS Lite, but it’s the one console I’m very confident in working on now that I’ve done so many. I’ll make a hinge replacement and screen replacement video that’ll hopefully help. Hopefully, you can get your childhood console working again. @cosmicnick4186
@cosmicnick4186 6 ай бұрын
Yes, it’s possible, but it can be a little tricky at first. The easiest way that I’ve found is to start at one of the bottom corners of the black adhesive and use something sharp like an exact o to carefully lift up some of it and then use your fingers to pull the plastic screen up off of the glass screen. Once enough is lifted from the screen, it might be easier to have the screen on a table with one finger holding it down while the other hand removes the plastic screen. I would only do this if it’s absolutely necessary as too much pressure on the screen can break the pixels, and I’ve done this a couple times when trying to clean the glass

Nice! I myself bought a used gba sp with a broken screen, plan to install a ips screen. I also picked up a Japanese dsi for $45, ended up hacking it so it is now in English with twilightmenu++. I unfortunately don't have my original dslite anymore. So im iust using a gba for gba games, and a dsi for ds games.
